Little Angels: The Real Life Stories of Thai Novice Monks
by Phra Peter Pannapadipo.

Traded In recently @ Canterbury Tales Bookshop / Book exchange / Cafe / Guesthouse / Pattaya, Thailand....

The real life stories of the novice monks in Little Angels reflect the lives of many youths in rural Thailand who are trapped in the vicious cycle of poverty, broken homes, illiteracy and drug abuse.
When all else fails, Buddhism becomes their last resort: providing them with physical shelter and spiritual refuge. It heals their childhood traumas and gives them a moral framework for living and a better outlook on life.
Each individual story, heartrending as it may be, subtly shows what Phra Peter sees and hopes to show to others: the 'human face' of Thai Buddhism.

Presented in an attractive gift format and accompanied by Gibran’s original artwork, this new edition allows Gibran’s inspirational account of Christ to be read once more.

Alexandria, Egypt.
Born a humble servant girl on a cotton plantation owned by a wealthy British family, Karima Ismail never imagined how far her dreams would take her, nor the heartache and passion in store.

S.O.S. by Joseph Connolly.

Traded In recently @ Canterbury Tales Bookshop / Book exchange / Cafe / Guesthouse / Pattaya, Thailand...

It takes just six days and nights to cross the Atlantic on a luxury liner, but during that time, lives can be changed forever. Amidst the seething melting pot of 1600 passengers on the 'Transylvania' are David and Nicole.
Nicole and her two teenage children, Rollo and Marianne, are keen on the voyage, but not David, or his mistress, Trish.
Also on board are Jennifer, a youthful 39 and her 20 year old daughter, Stacy.
If she can shake off the attentions of the maddening couple, Nobby and Aggie, veterans of the cruise world, Jennifer would like to fall for Earl, the young son of American couple Dwight and Charlene.
By the time the 'Transylvania' docks in New York, the lives of all have been jarred, bruised and sexed up, knocked out or just plain shredded and what seemed to be a set of inviolate futures now lies in utter disarray on the watery decks of this singular, castaway, floating city.
S.O.S. is another wildly inventive black comedy from one of Britain's funniest writers.

Kama Sutra of Vatsayana by Vatsayana.

Traded In recently @ Canterbury Tales Bookshop / Book exchange / Cafe / Guesthouse / Pattaya, Thailand.....

The 1964 publication of Sir Richard Burton's translation marked the first wide appearance in English of the Kama Sutra and was celebrated as a literary event of highest importance.
As vital to an understanding of ancient Indian civilization as the works of Plato and Aristotle are to the West, the Kama Sutra has endured for 1,700 years as an indisputable classic of world literature.
Written with frankness and unassuming candor, the Kama Sutra remains one of the most readable and enjoyable of all the classics of antiquity.
A work of philosophy, psychology, sociology, Hindu dogma, scientific inquiry, and sexology, the Kama Sutra's importance is so great that it has at the same time both affected Indian civilization and remained an indispensable key to understanding it.

The ravens: Pilots of the secret war of Laos
by Christopher Robbins.

Traded In recently @ Canterbury Tales Bookshop / Book exchange / Cafe / Guesthouse / Pattaya, Thailand...

The Ravens were American forward air controllers who directed strikes from vulnerable, low flying spotter planes, mainly in support of a Meo general named Vang Pao in Laos. "Advised" by the CIA, this fierce warlord fought to keep the North Vietnamese out of the strategic Plain of Jars.
Robbins (Air America) conveys the unique flavor of Raven style combat and also explains how the diplomatic military dynamics of the clandestine war in Laos fit into the overall American effort in Southeast Asia.
The cast of characters is memorable: a swaggering, rowdy bunch of mavericks whom their parent service (the U.S. Air Force) had great difficulty controlling, they seemed to get by on sheer cussedness.
According to the author, they suffered the highest casualty rate of the Indochinese War.
Robbins describes the poignant plight of displaced Meo/Hmong tribespeople who have settled uneasily in the United States, including General Pao and their ongoing struggle to "propitiate the alien spirits of America."

Thaksin: by Pasuk Phongpaichit & Chris Baker.

Traded In recently @ Canterbury Tales Bookshop / Book exchange / Cafe / Guesthouse / Pattaya, Thailand......

In the early 1990's, Thaksin Shinawatra came from nowhere to become a multi billionaire in just four years.
In 2001, he was elected prime minister on a single-minded promise to accelerate Thailand to first world status through unrestrained capitalist growth.
In 2009, over video link from exile in Dubai, he urged thousands of red shirted supporters to revolution, provoking days of street fighting and the biggest ever domestic operation by the Thai army.

Thaksin's tenure gave new meaning to the role of prime minister and transformed Thai politics.
It is an extraordinary story involving four landslide elections, a military coup, a demonstration lasting half a year, the popular mobilization of people in color coded street armies, the occupation of Bangkok's international airport, assassination plots, and the flight of Asian leaders from a regional meeting by helicopter.

The first edition of this book was published in 2004, and the original chapters remain unchanged.
In this expanded second edition, four new chapters and a conclusion trace in detail the protracted story of Thaksin's downfall.

Wild Girls, Wild Nights: True Lesbian Sex Stories
by Sacchi Green.

Traded In recently @ Canterbury Tales Bookshop / Book exchange / Cafe / Guesthouse / Pattaya, Thailand.....

There are the fabled urban myths of lesbians who fill up a U Haul on the second date and lead sweetly romantic lives of cocoa and comfy slippers.
Safe and sound.
A lot of cozy and not much crazy.
These are NOT those stories, these are wild women with dirty minds, untamed tongues, and even the occasional cuff or clamp.
A lotta crazy and no cozy slippers to be seen.
These Wild Girls tell stories of their own Wild Nights (and days,) memories too hot to keep undercover.
Real women with real needs and overwhelming desires find the courage to reveal intimate, unrestrained details of their sex lives, the need to share their stories second only to the urgent impulses that drove the action in the first place.
There are first times, life long commitments, and fleeting encounters to savor for a lifetime.
Tenderness merges with edge play; scenes shift from Caribbean islands to desert battlefields to the ultimate privacy of home; and the writers range from well known names to newcomers driven to share fresh memories they'll never forget.

In Evan Mora's "The Insatiable Travel Itch," repression in public drives her wild.
"Transported, transplanted, we are transgressors.
And it makes me fucking wet.
Angel Propps struggles to face her deepest desires.
The word Daddy had a familiar shape on my tongue, but not in my head, and for one second I was sure I was going to Hell and then I came." She'd found, of course, "The Daddy I didn't know I needed." Anna Watson, in "Tamago," gives a poignant and sizzling view of being a lesbian femme who loves butches.
"I know being femme is what makes the breath blow out of me when she calls and says, Babe, I just wanted you to know that I was driving along here, thinking about your breasts."

Reality doesn't have to be prosaic.
Real sex can be wet, messy, frenzied, sometimes even awkward, but never boring.
With these writers and seventeen more, Wild Girls, Wild Nights: True Lesbian Sex Stories is the proof of that.

Outlandish Knight: The Byzantine Life of Steven Runciman
by Minoo Dinshaw.

Traded In recently @ Canterbury Tales Bookshop / Book exchange / Cafe / Guesthouse / Pattaya, Thailand.

ECONOMIST AND SPECTATOR BOOKS OF THE YEAR 2016.

The biography of one of the greatest British historians, but also of a uniquely strange and various man.

In his enormously long life, Steven Runciman managed not just to be a great historian of the Crusades and Byzantium, but Grand Orator of the Orthodox Church, a member of the Order of Whirling Dervishes, Greek Astronomer Royal and Laird of Eigg.
His friendships, curiosities and intrigues entangled him in a huge array of different artistic movements, civil wars, Cold War betrayals and, above all, the rediscovery of the history of the Eastern Mediterranean.
He was as happy living in a remote part of the Inner Hebrides as in the heart of Istanbul.
He was obsessed with historical truth, but also with tarot, second sight, ghosts and the uncanny.

Outlandish Knight is a dazzling debut by a writer who has prodigious gifts, but who also has had the ability to spot one of the great biographical subjects.
This is an extremely funny book about a man who attracted the strangest experiences, but also a very serious one.
It is about the rigours of a life spent in the distant past, but also about the turbulent world of the twentieth century, where so much that Runciman studied and cherished would be destroyed.

The Way to Nirvana in This Life: Buddhism Kindle Edition
by Ekachai Chulacharitta.

Traded In recently @ Canterbury Tales Bookshop / Book exchange / Cafe / Guesthouse / Pattaya, Thailand.

The Buddha realized nirvana with his mind during his lifetime. So did all of his arahant disciples, who also realized nirvana after him in their lifetime.
Likewise, the attainment of nirvana in this very life is possible if we are constantly mindful to abandon what is evil, always do what is good and purify our own mind like all the arahants. This can be achieved through the study and practice of the dharma according to the four noble truths, correctly, fully and consistently.
This little book therefore brings to you the four noble truths, plainly and clearly explained, complete with the three aspects of learning, namely, theory, practice and evaluation.
You will certainly experience nirvana at each and every moment in this life without any limitation as to time and place. And there is no need to wait until the next life either.

Vulture Peak by John Burdett.

Traded In recently @ Canterbury Tales Bookshop / Book exchange / Cafe / Guesthouse / Pattaya, Thailand.

Nobody knows Bangkok like Royal Thai Police Detective Sonchai Jitpleecheep, and there is no one quite like Sonchai: a police officer who has kept his Buddhist soul intact more or less, despite the fact that his job shoves him face to face with some of the most vile and outrageous crimes and criminals in Bangkok.
But for his newest assignment, everything he knows about his city and himself will be a mere starting point.

He’s put in charge of the highest-profile criminal case in Thailand, an attempt to bring an end to trafficking in human organs.
He sets in motion a massive sting operation and stays at its center, traveling to Phuket, Hong Kong, Dubai, Shanghai, and Monte Carlo.
He draws in a host of unwitting players that includes an aging rock star wearing out his second liver and the mysterious, diabolical, albeit gorgeous co-queenpins of the international body parts trade: the Chinese twins known as the Vultures. And yet, it’s closer to home that Sonchai will discover things getting really dicey: rumors will reach him suggesting that his ex-prostitute wife, Chanya, is having an affair.
Will Sonchai be enlightened enough, forget Buddha, think jealous husband to cope with his very own compromised and compromising world?

All will be revealed here, in John Burdett’s most mordantly funny, propulsive, fiendishly entertaining novel yet.
