Quick blood HIV tests in Pattaya? Price? And do you ask girls to test?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning my next trip and I have a couple of questions I hope you can help with.

  1. Does anyone know if you can buy those single-use, rapid finger-prick HIV tests (the ones that give a result in 15-20 minutes) in Pattaya? I'm thinking maybe at a pharmacy or somewhere similar. If so, what's the approximate price for one?

  2. This is a more sensitive question, but has anyone ever actually suggested or asked a girl to do a quick test before going for ST or LT? Is this something that is completely unheard of and would kill the mood entirely, or has anyone had a experience with it?

I'm just trying to gauge if this is a practical idea or just a theoretical one. Any insights or experiences would be really appreciated.

Cheers.

Some girls could take it the wrong way if you ask them for a test. They'll think you believe they have a disease. If you don't plan on wearing protection, get on PreP.

Thanks, but did you buy it and could make test yourself at home or you had to make it directly in the clinic?

I went to the clinic without a reservation, asked for the test and they made it immediately by taking blood from my finger. After 30 min. I came back and got thé document with the test result

Its not a pracitcal idea because those tests dont react if you have been infected only a short while ago. Most of these tests specifically state that you should use them 6 months (yes, months) after your last sexual encounter to get a good result

Of course this completely not exclude the risk, every HIV test has to be made at least 1 month after, but it could check & exclude all people who got HIV longer than half year. So it reduces the risk a little bit.

Obviously HIV test does not excluded risk - I also hear that it could be sensitive enought to detect the virus in the first 6 months following infection - however I understood that risk to get infected by a person that was infected recently (less than 6 months) is low because the virus concentration in the blood is low too (this explained why the test may not detect the virus).

As HIV is only a part of the risk, what about the other risks? gonorrhea, syphilis, ....    does it exist  a  more holistic test package that could cover all ?

This. If HIV is your concern, then just get on PreP for the peace of mind.

Syphilis has also available quick blood test, but i am not sure about availability of it in Pattaya, for HPV you can make vaccination, for the others risks condoms should be enough protection. I was thinking about using Prep but i heard that it could give many side effects and you have to start using it at least one week before, so it is not so convenient.

Side effects from PrEP are minimal. It is very well tolerated. You also only need to take it two hours before sex if you start with a double dose, and then daily after that.
