Riding from Pattaya to Koh Chang? (ferry etc)

Not sure if this is the correct Forum, but has anyone ridden from Pattaya to Koh Chang recently?

And if so, what route did you take and how did you arrange the bike on the ferry to Koh Chang? Any advice / suggestion would be most appreciated!

I was there last year in October, drove from Pattaya. Ferry is simple, just show up and pay the fee which is negledgable and across you go.

I got on Google maps and took the major route there. I made my way to the 36 then the 3, takes you very close to the ferry. Drive is easy, very nice drive, not much traffic once you are out of Pattaya.

I have a mate who has done it but he did it with a tour group, they take an alternate route than what you’d do in a car, you take more scenic and winding roads through Trat especially. I’d suggest some google research on guided rides to really get the best out of the ride.

Another mate I think has done it as well, @Saintman1 was it you?

Ferry is easy, rock up at the pier, pay and your on the next ferry pretty much.

Earlier this year I traveled from Pattaya to Koh Chang and back with Boonsiri Ferry.  It was $900 baht each way and the price included the ferry to Koh Chang and taxi to hotel.  It was a combination of van ride from Pattaya which met up with bus coming from Bangkok for the remainder of the ride to the ferry to Koh Chang. Have also traveled  from Pattaya to Koh Chang/Koh Mak via private taxi which was much more comfortable.  The one way taxi price was around $3000-$3500 if I remember correctly.  Also if traveling from Bangkok there is a a bus from Ekkamai to Koh Chang for $500 baht one way.

I hate boats generally but two things I avoid are a Thai inspected boat or amusement park ride.

Traveling carnivals also.

Hey mate,

Done it a few times.

2 routes for bikes to avoid boring highway... Inland and coastal, try each :)

I have GPX files if you need.

Ferry - Do not assume it is going all day, especially this time of year.

If you have time I would plan :

Day 1 - Pattaya - Chantaburi inland O/N Kaserman hotel

Day 2 - Chantaburi - Koh Chang (that way you arrive earlier and more likely to get a ferry)

Day 3 - Koh Chang

Day X - Koh Chang via Coastal Route. Stop Mae Phim for lunch and arrive Pattya afternoon

Enjoy....

White Sands Beach is probably the best place...

Be aware when low tide lots of beaches turn into rocks...  Don't ask me how I know 🤪

  • Thanks 1

Best stay on white beach or near Kai bae Walking Street for some action?

I was just in Kai Bae, do not think that WS is anything like what you imagine. White Sands will be a lot better for action.

I’ve crossed in that ferry a dozen times, never felt it to be unsafe. Sure something could possibly go wrong but I’ve not ever heard of an issue with KC ferries.

Visited Kai Bae last year so I know it isn’t much 😊

Koh Chang is mostly for some beach vacation away from the craziness. But still  nice if you can find some gems.
