Need to see a Dermatologist

I would like to see a dermatologist while I'm in town to have a few skin tags cut off. Is it better to book an appointment at an office or go to the hospital? Can you make appointments for the hospital? I want the best possible care.

My mother had some laser done on facial spots. She was happy with the work.  This doctor practiced in the USA.

Dr Anna at BPH is on long vacation.

The dermatologists at PIH are very good. Especially Dr Waraporn (in my opinion better that Dr Anna was).

I can recommend the Bangkok Hospital in Pattaya. I had seborrheic keratosis reviewed by a walk in skin clinic. I wasn't very happy with their treatment plan.

So instead I went to the Hospital. The Dr Dermatologist immediately said the area needs to be numbed first. Then treatment with 2 different lasers.

The best thing is there almost no scar. Maybe 3% noticeable once all healed.

I can also highly recommend Bangkok Hospital in Bangkok for any dermatology procedures. And all their prices a way below the walk in clinics.

Do you really need a derm for skin tags? I had some removed at Pattaya Memorial by just the regular doctor on staff. Only one needed stitches and no scarring. Always receive great care at Pattaya Memorial.

I'm not capable of judging a dermatologists qualification but had a couple of skin tags removed at the clinic just opposite where soi Buakhao meet Pattaya Tai. Didn't made any appointments just walked in and all done in 10-15 min. This was a couple of years ago and damagr, from memory, somewhere between thb 1.200 and 1.500.

I attended my GP in Ireland for an annual check up and had small raised spot on my skin over my eye just below my hair line.  As I wear glasses it is hard for me to actually see it so was anxious for him to look at it. He examined it and said it did not look dangerous or cancerous, but referred me to a consultant dermatologist. The first available appointment was next January at a time when I would not be in Ireland and so I would have to defer to February. The cost of the initial appointment was going to be €250 (approx 9,000).

I had a look on the forum and and found a few threads on Dermatologists and there was positive feedback for Dr Waraporn Klanwarin at PIH, so I though I would see if I could get an appointment when I was in Pattaya. I contacted PIH on Monday and got an appointment for Thursday PM. I went along today and was seen within a few minutes of my allocated time.

Dr Waraporn Klanwarin is very pleasant and speaks very good English.  She checked over my spot on my face and a few other moles I had and said each one was non-cancerous and could be removed by laser if they irritated me, but if they didn't there was nothing more required to be done. Just key and eye on them and any new moles or skin issues that may arise.

Cost for the consultation was 1,000baht plus nursing and other fees of 300baht giving a total of 1.300baht or around €36 Euro.  So I saved myself over €200 and got an appointment with a consultant dermatologist months before I could get one privately in Ireland! There is the added bonus of not having the slight concern for the next few months that any of the moles or skin issues could be problematic!

I asked how often should someone like me get a skin check-up and she suggested annually and so like an annual dental check-up I now plan to get an annual skin check-up for around 1,300baht.

I have a feeling that if I had gone to one of the skin clinics they may have pushed for the laser removal of the harmless moles and spots and therefore increased the cost of the visit.

Dr. Waraporn removed a basal cell carcinoma for me a couple of years ago. This was done effectively and quickly. She shaved off the tumor and managed to remove it in its entirety (this was confirmed because the biopsy at home showed no signs of cancer).

I have a follow-up question though. I also have many seborrheic keratosis spots. They're benign warts which my dermatologist at home won't remove. I think they're ugly, especially because I'm still young. Anyone have any experience having those removed by Dr. Waraporn? And if so, what is the procedure? I prefer liquid nitrogen because it doesn't leave any wounds.

My experience so far: For seborrheic keratosis the dermatologists in BHP prefer liquid nitrogen (so does my dermatologist in Switzerland). Dr. Nitivadee (her praxis is on Beach Road,  the building next to Mikes Shopping mall) prefers laser.

I asked my dermatologist in Switzerland and according to him any choice of weapon (laser or nitrogen) will produce good outcome. So far I can confirm this.

Her forte is using liquid nitrogen.  2-3 weeks to heal properly. Thumbs up.
