Looking for a hotel in phuket

My plan in November is to fly over to Phuket for a few days and wing it. We will pay for flights on the spot and have a look see where has rooms. To avoid any speed bumps thought I'd check here for reccommendations. Things such as what's the best location? close to bangla? is there much girl friendly hotels there? any specific hotels I should check out? its very much going to be a 2 week millionaire holiday..

3 star and under, a lot of GF hotels. 4 or 5 star, only a few.
