Bit of a contradiction there, mate.  Do you want a hotel on Sukhumvit or one next to MBK?  There's a fair distance between the two.

i stayed at bangkok diamond last trip. My gal looked at long term rent there. This hotel acts as a dorm for uni students as well as monthly rental for regular Thais.

It was 800 baht nightly, or 8000 per month. Rooms were quite big, hell, I couldn't bitch for that price. We walked to mbk from there.

Many cheap thai eateries in the side sois .

Asia hotel has direct access to a BTS station and is a short walk to MBK.

Friends daughter has made the Australian team for some Muay Thai tournament

They're on a budget with a decent size family
