Local Clean-sweep for the Democrats in Thai General Election.

On Sunday December 23rd, the citizens of Thailand took part in the General Election. We must stress that all voting statistics mentioned in this report are unofficial pending ratification by the Electoral Commission, however with 100% of the votes counted; we can confirm that the National Turnout figure was 70.27%. The party with the most number of seats was the People Power Party with 228 parliamentary seats. In second place was the Democrat Party with 166 Seats with the Chart Thai Party coming in third place with 39 seats. The PPP Party do not have an overall majority which means a coalition is required if they are to form the next Government. Days of uncertainty are ahead as the Democrats could also form the next government if enough of the smaller parties agree to join them to allow them to control the majority of seats and hence form the next government. Locally it was a clean sweep for the Democrat Party. Turnout for Chonburi Province was calculated as 74% of eligible voters. Pattaya comes under Region 2 of Chonburi Province which includes Ko Si Shang, Sattahip, parts of Sriracha and Banglamung District. Three Parliamentary Seats were being contested. The local turnout figure was 90.32%. The winners of the local election were as follows: In first place with 67,457 votes was Khun Pogana from the Democrat Party. In second place with 64,886 votes was Khun Tanarorj also a Democrat and in third place with 64,497 votes was Khun Maidree from the same party.
