PRICES IN THAILAND vs IMPORT DUTIES vs EBAY

Throughout my 13 years in Pattaya I am still amazed at the hideous prices on items. I never have, and probably never will, figure out how prices of everything in a country with ten dollar a day labor can be five times what they are in the US. I have been purchasing many items on ebay lately where they add the import tariffs at shipping and I pay one price with no hassle. I have learned that the import tariffs are only twenty to fifty percent depending on the item and shipping is reasonable. Most items from China, Japan, and a lot of other place ship free but the US is a little pricy. I have found I can buy items on ebay, pay the shipping, pay the import taxes and still save 75%.

Try it sometime.

I have traveled to the Dominican Republic and I find myself asking the same question.  How can prices at supermarkets and stores be so high when people are making so little.  It bogles the mind. I have always thought labor was one of the highest expenses in any business, so what is the reason for high prices?  Don't know.  I can guess is greed.

Well ... some people have to make a living... the goods have passed trough 3-4 stations/people.... (originally manufactured at the same place as the one you bought on the internet). Where as Internet sales... works with quantity and extremely low margins. Here in Europe you can get goods from China for as low as 7-9$ including shipping... event if i wanted to send something in the same country the freight cost would be that much... !!! Crazy world...

Try Aliexpress.com
In Australia things for as little as $2 delivered.

I would like to know if Thailand bothers with items under 150 bt
How much all up??

In Thailand I figure personal items are way way overpriced relative to Aldi or
similar. Imported booze is too much. So via Malaysia, I pay for baggage fees
so I not bothered.

On Singapore, they have blown it. Everyone shops in Malasia over the causeway.
