The origins of our PA names

Captain Courageous

Chatting with a fellow PA member here, I took the effort to explain where my PA nickname came from; what about the rest of you ?

The "Captain Courageous" label came from a nickname I was given when we were on exchange with the Canadian Army; we were doing a Mountaineering course at the time up at Banf and I'd wandered out to the distant portable Toilet building to empty my bowels.

I was later told that while I was seated doing the job a full grown black Bear came out of the woods and started shaking the hell out the little building I was in. I remember at the time I came out holding my trousers up thinking it was some of the boys practical joking until I saw the Bear !

I don't think I've run so fast in my life, half-wiped arse and still folding my trousers up with both hands.

Thankfully the still roaring Bear stayed where he was rocking the building until a couple of our blokes with shotguns loaded up with rubber projectiles drove it off.

After that I was referred to as "Captain Courageous" ! I did wear the rank though.
