Memorial Hospital Double Pricing

I went to Memorial Hospital last week with a Thai friend who needed a routine medical examination. While waiting for them in the lobby, I saw some information on flu vaccinations, so I decided to get one while waiting. I inquired as to the cost of the injection and was told 620.00 baht - seemed reasonable - so I went ahead with it. Then the bill came - 1,490.00 baht - wow !!! Stupid me - I didn't ask about all the additional service charges, doctors fees, etc. When I compared my printed bill to my Thai friend's bill, their doctors visit for a 15 minute examination was 250.00 baht, my doctors visit charge for a 1 minute examination was 700.00 baht - almost 3 times higher. When I complained to the Administrator - the basic reply was - you Farang, you can pay more than Thai. Lesson learned - buyer beware !!!! FYI - I called Pattaya International Hospital on Soi 4 and their total out-the-door price for the Influenza 2012 vaccine is 900.00 baht.
