Hello people. I`m 46 tomorrow and have a five year plan to move to Pattaya. I`m a golfing tragic and love the lifestyle Pattaya presents if you know what i mean. I have a job in Australia where i have a lot of cash money which i`m bringing to Pattaya and putting in my bank a/c there. In the next 5 years that will give me $150,000.00. Investments at home $250,000.00. How much more is needed to live comfortably. Buy there or rent?

thats cruel sonya, if you wish to live or retire in pattaya t bone 150,000$ will take you a long way if you wish to do business there it wont take you long to burn it up and waste it unless your very very wise ........ if your willing to live there for years on end i would rent you could live comfortably ie: beer food and living expenses and differant girl everynight  for  less than $1500 aud per month and thats 4* comfort so if you have 400 k you could survive comfortably for easy 20 years living it 4* style or you can wase approx 100k of that and open a small business that will generate some monthly income to help you keep some of the 300 k left over for more than 20 years but yes 400 k will take you a long time to spend in pattaya unless you waste it foolishly by giving the girls a grand a night then it wont last you a year its totally up to you but its more than enough of a start up for retirement in pattaya  cheers mate good luck with that

Sounds like a great plan T-Bone 12,

I'm new to this forum & relatively so to Pattaya but have a similar plan.

I have been coming to Thailand for nearly 10 years now & have spent most of my time in Bangkok, Phuket & Samui. The general consensus amongst those i,ve spoken to is to have your money work for you @ home (keep away from owing businesses in Thailand) & renting, rather than buying is the better option.

Just my two bobs worth. Hope you can make it happen.

Thanks Mac. It`s always good to have a plan to get to Disneyland. It gives you a reason to get out of bed and work your ass off

Food and transpertation...

I try to eat thai food and have found if you eat on the side road stalls it will cost you a fraction of the cost and you will find some of the best food around.  A bowl of beef noodle soup can be nice at a mear price of 35-45 baht...for an extra 5 baht..you can get the "pee said' or special bowl for a person who wants to ea a little more but feels that 2 bowls of soup will be too much.

A word about eating on the road side stands...

I am a masters degree in organic chemistry nerd so i am really familiar with and interested in science of many things.

I  when you see roadside food stand you will notice that most of the food is kept in the open without being cooled.

many esterners come to thailand and have major stomach problems. This is because your body is not use to the bacteria or micro organisms. If this sounds like you...then you are most likely a person who after finishing cooking...thow the leftovers in the fridge right away before the bacterial has a chance to invade what was not eaten at that meal.

I have found that if you leave your food out in the kitchen and snack on it through out the day...say on a saturday or sunday...your body gets use to having bacteria and micro organisms around.

I was a person who had massive massive problems when I first arrived in Thailand...after converting over to the suggested system...my stomach is nearly as hearty as a Thais.

I can eat even the craziest things a Thai can and not have the shits or bad stomach...excuse my french!

Bottom line..great food at the hawker stalls for a fraction of the price..

Dailey expenses for food 500 baht

monthly total 15,000 or 500 USD

I would spend more like 200 baht!

I have been coming for decades, and seen some make unwise investments. Hense the saying "How do you make a small fortune in Pattaya, ..start with a large fortune"  sure some astute business people have thrived in a land where the legal system does not favour the new comer.

The alternative that some friends have done in to buy and rent out property at home sending the income here. You would also need about B800,000 here in an acount to be elegible for a retirement visa.
