Help, re- entry problems, when Thai marriage goes wrong?

Hi one and all,
The old statement, "it`s not for me, but for a "friend" - in this instance is true! So please help!
A guy I know in my local club, after his 2nd visit, got married in Thailand, to a Thai lady, (approx 1/3rd of his age). He`s 73, and after the wedding, lived with her family, (in Nakon nowhere), and surprise surprise, with him not speaking a word of Thai - after a couple of months, he got taken to the cleaners.

Everything that was "bought" - like the new kitchen, car, household repairs etc, that he unwitingly signed for, has, (he assures me), been paid for in full. Knowing the guy, as I do, I have no reason to disbelieve him.

However, rightly so, he "fled the nest", and has since returned to England, trying to put it all behind him. Unfortunately, he`s terrified to return to Thailand in case she may be able to make a "legal" financial claim against him, as they are still married under Thai law, even though seperated. He`s even worried that if ever he went back, he could be arrested.

Thai law differs enormously, from that here in the UK, where it would only be regarded as a "domestic issue", so is there any foundation in his worries, that he could be arrested at the airport, or does anyone know if is he free to come and go as he pleases?

Any help, guidance/, or advice, on this matter will be truly appreciated. Thanks in anticipation

Regards

Mudstuffin.

If he has enough money walk away and learn!
There should be no restrcitions on his travel and if they were married in the amphur he has recourse to her!

What sort of marrage was it a village wedding or did he do it properly and register it a the amphor in the main town?

Did he put all the car in her name or his, does he still have receipts for the things he bought?

If it was a registered wedding does he want to be able to get a divorce

I would probably think he would get more information if he got in touch with the royal thai consulate in Hull, or there are plenty of sites to look at if he just searches on google

I agree with roppa regards getting in contact with Thai consulate.
But I probably feel that she (ex-thai wife) has probably found another farang by now to fill her pockets.
So don't worry come back & enjoy yourselfs - she probably doesn't even remember what he looks like & you will never see her again anyway she has moved on.

Very believable, it is more common than you think! Perhaps a short "sojourn" in the Phils could
"help" ease his Pain and give a new outlook? Never, Ever, rush in, think it through! Most likely he did not??? It is NOT the End! Good luck for the Future!

If he was legaly married in Thailand, Even if not legaly married the same can apply as they were together as man and wife. Even if everything went in her name. Under Thai Law. He is legaly entitled to half of everything gained during the marriage.. So I do not think she will bother him because she knows that too ... Good Luck Stevenkurt
