I have done this thread just to test the blog so it doesnt look so empty, please don't take it so seriously, its just a bit of fun.

What is Pattaya Paranoia?

I have used this term many times to describe some people who frequent Pattaya, who are paranoid about usual daily happenings.

What causes "Pattaya Paranoia?"

I think Pattaya Paranoia, is caused by the following factors all mixed in one

1. Cultural differences that have been left unexplained
2. High rate of suicides
3. Police that are corrupt, so alot of mistrust at all levels
4. Language barrier
5. Foreigners being ignorant
6. Drunken bar talk, of great stories
7. Living in a fantasy land, other issues become clouded
8. Two week holiday experts returning home with crazy tales of Pattaya, then repeated again
9. Alcohol and drugs
10. Previous bad experiences left unexplained, forcing people to find there own unrational explainations
11. Cross cultures - some nationalaties like to find a scandal or conspiracy

Who is most vulnerable?

Those that are illinformed, or less experienced in Pattaya. Perhaps those taking drugs or rely on bar talk. I hear paranoid voices weekly as an expat, its difficult for the newbie tourist not to be drawn in.

How can one avoid Paranoia in Pattaya?

Learn Thai Language

Keep away from drugs

Seek second opinions, and third and fourth...

Listen to the guys that have been living there longer, giving credit to those that arent living in bars

If you are living in Pattaya, keep busy and have a purpose. "The devil makes work for idle hands?"

When I first visited Pattaya back in 1992 a well known bar owner said to me that I'd have to visit Pattaya on at least 7 occasions to really understand Pattaya.
18 years on and 22 visits later I'm still learning but Im a lot wiser. Nowadays I now have a good idea what to expect when I visit Pattaya and take things in my stride but never take anything for granted.
The only thing that I wish I'd done is learn the thai language. I know a few words and sentances but have been to lazy to learn the languauge properly

I think we all of PAM know about this. The best way to ship around the cliffs and riffs is this.Come to Bkk,take your soule and emotions in a big safe, enjoy your holliday,go to airport, open your safe, take of your belongings, fly home and dream of your next holliday. So the paranoia cant catch you to much.

After reading and visiting Pattaya, we can all agree that the most important way to avoid this paranoia is to learn thai language.
The conifence level will jump up and will help tremedously.

yeah for sure you see and hear about it around town, the piss, heat, lack off sleep and whatever else fancies you, does seem to have an affect even on sum of the most seasoned drinkers..but to be aware of your surroundings is cool maybe a must.
