Greatest Sportsman Right Now

MIGHTYONE

Recommended Posts

Had a night in front of the TV last watching the Sports. On one side was Federer winning another Grand Slam and on the other was Woods shooting a 63 to win a big tournament in America. Got me thinking who was the the best out of them. I really struggled to come up with an answer as they are both supreme sportsmen. I am just giving the vote to Woods, but only just as I think Golf is a harder sport to dominate than tennis.

Also is there another who comes close to them. I personally cannot think of anyone.

Jesse Owen (USA) 4 Olympic Gold medals in Berlin, stuffed it up Hitlers jacksy. 100m, 200m, 4*100 relay and long jump all in one afternoon

Al Oeter (USA) 4 Gold medals at 4 different games- discus

Sir Steve Gedgrave (GB) 5 Olympic Gold medals at 5 different games - rowing

Mark Spitz (USA) 7 Gold medals in 1 games, still unequalled - swimming

Xavier Sotomayer (Cuba) the first man to jump over 8' (2m 40cm) no one has reached this height, only this man - high jump.

The list goes on and on IMO Federer and Woods are no great shakes just the best of a bad modern bunch of sportsmen

Mohammad Ali for me

Steve Redgrave with the Brit' inside me.

When Federer has done it for 16 years+ like they did then he might be worthy of consideration............................... but probably not coz I stand stand tennis.

And as for Golf............its a game not a sport - now I will go and duck behind a wall and oput my tin hat on

I agree but the question was now. If we are talking about greatest ever, there would be loads to consider

The best sportsman ever is Edson Arantes do Nascimento (Pele). He does not play for Brazil any longer, but he is still involved in the sport, which happens to be (real) football.

Alexander Karelin Superheavyweight Greco-Roman wrestler .

He won gold medals at the 1988, 1992, and 1996 Olympic Games.

His record is just out of this world.

He went undefeated in international competition from 1987 until 2000.

Sorry u ment now?

Michael Johnson's 200m and 400m olympic double and the 200m world record time he set is pretty impressive.

Pele was the best ever footballer.

In the present day i'd have to say Tiger Woods. There's just so many dedicated competitors from every corner of the globe in modern golf its a massive sport and to dominate like he does is very impressive. I'd like to see him win a major when behind going into the final round though!

Especially coming from 7 strokes behind as Gary Player did in the final round of the 1978 US Masters for his 9th major.

You can not be serious. :LMAO1:

Maybe because Roger and Tiger are so far ahead of their competitors and make it look so simple?

The question was who is the greatest athlete NOW.

What hasn't Tiger achieved?

Even a guy named Jack Nicklaus, arguably the greatest golfer ever, seems to rate Woods pretty highly.

Are you saying that rowing or even track and field is more competitive than golf or tennis? Don't think so. :D

I have to go with Woods. On the current rating system of golfers, he has more than 21 points. Second place in the world has about 9 points. There's no one even close in his "sport". And yes, it's a sport. $10 million dollars in winnings, not counting the endorsements. In my book, that makes it a big time Sport.

Personally, I don't like someone to dominate a sport totally like that. Starts getting boring.

I voted for Woods, but I think you are right on this. I don't think anyone even scored a point on him for ten years or so before he lost in 2000.

Karelin lost to American Rulon Gardner in the gold-medal match at the 2000 Summer Olympics.
