HI all Think I want to start this thread and see where it goes. Where was the strangest place you found yourself drinking. For me it was in Egypt on a boat on lake Nassar with an Armed guard who had an ouzi sub machine gun whle I was fishing and drinking a slab of Bulmers that I brought with me from Ireland . Lake Nassar is now a military protected area as it has the Aswan dam on it but also Egypt is 2/3 muslem 1/3 christian. :Booboo::o:P

Strangest place for me was in a very small village on the border of Laos, i had gone to see a Issan music concert, when we were surrounded by armed guards, with rifles and guns !! when i asked the then girlfriend what was going on ? she just replied "have boxing after" It was when i went for a piss at the back of the stage that two Thai lads followed me and pulled a gun on me "Farrang Mafia ugh" he said laughing, i looked up at the armed security and they were just laughing like hyenas, i proceeded to sup my 8 cans of Chang as quick as i could to the amusement of about 5000 Thia's staring at me !!

I felt like a black man at a KKK meeting, i was very scared and it took me an hour to fight my way through the baiting crowd, i thought i was going to die that night...

For me it has to be at Heathrow, enroute to Thailand. On a Monday morning about 0600 whilst checking in, I was told (again) that my bags were to heavy & had to take something out. The only thing I could do was to remove a few cans of Guiness. I was bringing 20 cans in exchange for 2 weeks free accomadation. (35.5 Baht=£1 - it was worth it) The twats at chek-in sat there & watched me sit on my bags & drink 3 cans- then they said "ok that'll do put your bags through" I said "I don't get this- coz that weight's still inside me"!(burp). They said "But it'll be out before you board"! Everyone was watching me looking on in utter disgust! I'd just had a heavy night & the last thing I wanted was hair of the dog. I suppose it cheered up a dreary morning for them though.

On a kibbutz in Israel in 1984 a few of us were left in the fields to finish off planting melons at 6pm.

As it was right on the Egyptian border we had an Israeli military escort that consisted of a large vehicle with an anti-aircraft gun on the back an 4 soldiers armed with uzis.

One of the soldiers pulled out a bottle of 'ouzo' type firewater and passed it round.

We each had a hold of an uzi and a sit on the back of the truck pointing an anti-aircraft gun at the vultures!

Then their commanding officer turned up and off they went...

None of us had a camera as it wasn't allowed. You could spit over the barbed wire and set off the sensors we were that close to the border!
