How about giving an escort a call to meet you at a hotel for a nice massage for a couple hours. Or book the Devils Den bus to drive you in circles around the airport for 2 hours while you have fun. Same as driving to Pattaya

She quit pattaya after we got together and now works 10 hour days in a supermarket and her one day off is spent helping on the family farm and minding her daughter.

I think the least I can do is not lie to her and to be honest I dont want to but thanks for the suggestions :)

If i understand you right your luggage has been checked in all the way to Chiang Rai. So just go through immigration take a taxi to somewhere like Beergarten in soi 7, have a good meal, a few beers, and have a look at the FL (pick one if u want) and then go back to Swampy - will take you no time to get through security as it is domestic, and off you go to Chiang Rai. Goint through immigration should not take more than 30-60 min. Going downtown Bangers about 30 (same when you go back), but let us say 2 hours in total Including immigration, Will give you at least 3 hours in Suk to entertain yourself.

What's available to do at 7am in bangers ? Apart from the obvious lol

You could check to see if you can gain lounge access through one of the global carriers linked to Thai or Cathay. I don't know if Thai would honor a United Airlines day pass, for example, but they are both members of Star Alliance, so it may work.

I would suggest you post a similar inquiry on flyertalk.com -- it's a chat board that focuses on airline industry, and I'm sure you'd get some great (NON-monger!) suggestions.

One word of caution: the people on that board can be obnoxious pricks. While I find their advice helpful, their condescending attitude really turns me off.

Sorry, You did not mention your time of arrival in the OP. Makes it a bit more difficult. I would still go downtown as a lot of restaurants will be open in the morning, so you could have a good meal and maybe a few beers - staying in Swampy for that long is not amusing :Hair_Out1: . Food and drinks in swampy are expensive unless you go to the ground floor and buy it from the restaurant there. There is also the Family Mart with prices just a little over the normal prices - but they do not serve any food worth eating IMO.

For breakfast i might suggest a small reataurant just on the corner of Ngam Duphli and Sathorn soi 1 (dont recall the name, sorry). They do open early - as far as i remember around 8 a.m. and serves quite a lot of different types of breakfast at very reasonable prices. Very nice and friendly place. Been there a few times as i had some businnes to do with the Danish embassy in soi 1 a few years ago. Do beleive they have english papers as well so you could have something to read as well and spend a few hours before returning to swampy.

Regarding the suggestions of getting a rest in "Louis Tavern Dayrooms & CIP lounge"; I've noticed it several times on passing through Suvarnabhumi (concourse G), but never actually tried it. However, your thread piqued my interest and so I also checked out their web site.

I agree that it's not initially obvious, but you can find the room rates by clicking directly on the Accommodation & Rate menu item (not on the 2 room options from the drop-down list).

[From their web site...]

post-51554-0-47900900-1333538842.jpg

Reservations can be made personally at our reception counter, via fax, telephone or email.

- PLEASE DO NOT CLEAR IMMIGRATION / CUSTOMS

- Room rates are non-negotiable and non-commissionable

- Room rates include Continental Breakfast and WiFi Internet

- Price is inclusive of service charge and government tax

- Key deposit 500 Baht (cash only)

- Extended stay will be charged at every 4 hours.

...[/end of web site info]

So, for a 6-hour stay in a single standard room, you are looking at THB 3300 (about €80) - not cheap, but at least you'd get a room, shower and some rest before your next flight. I also assume the room rate also includes lounge access, allowing you to chill out for a bit of you wanted.

Cheers, ReetDeeDee ô¿ô

No matter what I try for my next trip I cant get less than a 6 hour stop over in suvarnabhumi airport :(

I need is 6 hours of soul destroying time wasting in the airport with nothing to do.

There is a train at the basement of the BKK airport that takes you right ti Siam Center in exactly 17 minutes. Train runs every 30 minutes. Once there, nana is not far away. You can do some shopping or go for soapy massage or some oil massage. Then head back to the airport.

It makes a difference if your 6 hours is in all or 6 hours is what you have AFTER you have accounted for time to get back to airport and etc.

Plane lands at 7.05 and I board again at 13.15 so 6 hours all in.

I think for 80 quid the airport day bedroom seems an expensive but worthwhile option.

Anyone used Louis Tavern Dayrooms?

Reading a lot of mixed reviews and they are not cheap but if its a choice of paying my national airline €250 or staying 6 hours in the hotel it might be an option.

Yes, I have used them and they're fine for the purpose they serve. If you're very tired, you can indeed sleep for several hours stretched out on a proper bed and then shower and change clothes. I know if I hadn't been able to sleep for 18 or more hours, I'd be exhausted to the point of semi-consciousness.

Since you have six hours between the international flight's arrival at Swampy and the departure of the domestic leg, you could just get a day room for four hours, as 60 to 90 minutes will be used by deplaning, walking to the transit hotel and getting to the gate for the flight to Chiang Rai the required 30 minutes or so before departure.

Also, the Novotel hotel at the airport has "freshen up" deals for four hours that aren't much more expensive than a day room at the transit hotel and carry the added benefit of being able to use the hotel's swimming pool and exercise room. But that involves clearing Immigration Control and then security on the way back in, which can be time consuming.

There used to be a massage shop in the airport (a few years since I've been) so maybe you could have a relaxing 2 hr massage including a shower to help pass the time away. Have a couple of coffees and a leisurely breakfast and the time should pass reasonably quickly

Thanks guys for all suggestions. It's a coin toss between the day hotel which is €80 or a few spa treatments and a doss around the airport.

Its not Thai Air I would be worried about its Ryan Air or Aer Lingus 555

Quite right to be concerned about Ryan Air. Without doubt the worst airline I have ever flown with.

You are quite right, there is a massage shop.

In the old (Don Muang) Airport, I actually got an oil massage with HJ a couple of times. :GoldenSmile1: Don't think it was something on the menu as such, just pot luck on the girl you ended up with. Nice relaxing way to start your journey home.

Not tried the one at new airport yet.

Not bad :) ~1100/hr for an oil massage so it's quite expensive, I had a good time there last time through.
