Transport during Songkran

Los-t

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm coming to Thailand in early April and staying until the 18th.

It's come to my attention that the Songkran festival takes place during my stay. Also, I'm reading about traffic jams at this time.

How severe is this?

My original plan is to stay in Pattaya first, then go to Koh Chang for a couple of days around the 10th to the 14th, then back to Pattaya until I go home. Any good?

Appreciate your views on this.

There is usually gradual build up in Songkran madness, culminating in complete chaos on the 19th April. So 17th/18th/19th you may have problems with taxis picking in certain areas of Pattaya. If its an early morning pick up this is probably ok, but afternoon and evening may be difficult on the 18th.

Ok, thanks for the reply.

What about the evening on the 17th? My plane leaves from BKK early in the morning (about 2:30) on the 18th.

If I can't be sure that I'm going to make it I might have to go back to BKK for a day (which I don't really want to do).

  • 2 weeks later...

Also at this time of year, particularly 18th & 19th beware of taxi drivers turning up pissed.

This happened to me about 4 year ago, driver could hardly stand let alone drive and the guy I booked it through was most surprised that I was requesting he send a different driver.

Fortunately he did have someone sober available and managed to get me to airport on time.
