Bank accounts in Thailand with internet Banking

I have a bank account in Bangkok with HSBC and have been able to send money from the UK to thailand free of charge at a lot higher rate than normal when trying to do money transfers.

HSBC in their wisdom are now cancelling normal accounts at this branch and only using the branch for commercial banking.

They are suggesting a deal with Krungsri bank as an exclusive member and will transfer all money in Thailand from HSBC to this account.

Has anyone dealt with the Krungsri branch in Thailand and if so do they have internet banking which I can access from the UK in English.

They are stating a charge of 350baht for money exchages which is still a good deal.

Would be grateful of any info or any other UK banking institutions that have branch in Thaialnd.

Regards Big Casino.

I have acc with Kasikorn.

Have Internet banking and send SMS to phone on every transaction. Also have great iPhone app.

Can send money to international accounts only if you have a work permit and pay tax. Even then, charges are pretty high.

See you at Le Pub, soi Diamond.

I tried to send 15,000 baht with UOB Bank but there fee is 1050 thb so that is like 7 percent. Makes sense to stick with Paypal for smaller amounts.

A bit of a surprise that HSBC is withdrawing from retail operations on Thailand.

As for other UK banks that have a presence in Thailand, you could try Standard Chartered. It has always had a larger presence in Thailand than its arch rival.

If you want to just transfer money from UK to a thai bank account, you might look at specialist companies like http://www.ukforex.co.uk/ . If you look at the overall costs they are probably cheaper than HSBC anyway.

Bangkok Bank has a pretty good internet service in English. I transfer money from my Uk Building Society to their London branch, which forwards it to my account here in about 3 days at a pretty reasonable exchange rate.

Thanks everyone for info. Will look into standard chartered as this might work for me. Kungsri bank is an option but you have to have a thai mobile to get password for moving money to other accounts within thailand.
