This subject always gets very heated when the perpetrator is a foreigner, yet all over Thailand on a daily basis there are family members, neighbors, teachers, commiting similar crimes against under-aged girls & boys. In fact in many cases it's not even viewed as a "crime" but just seen as "the way of life".

 

While on assignments in the Deep South islands during the 1980s-1990s I saw many Thai-Muslim girls who were clearly under the legal age but were pregnant or nursing babies. There are many ways to put psychologic pressure on people to get them to do what they don't want. No need to be a child to be taken advandage. I am afraid this is still not completely out of the world, even in pattaya. There are (mainstream) venues that still have girls as young as 15 or 16 dancing naked on stage and even going with customers.

If you believe the press story the OP posted the old man was using his own car and he had taken the precaution of putting some kind of screen in the back to make sure no-one could see inside. The old man was obviously prepared for his visit to see the boy and presumably used his car as he knew he would have difficulty getting the boy into a ST room somewhere.

I agree with this. From what I know of the story it appears the German crew did a set up. They knew the old man was meeting the boy but didn't rush to intercept and prevent the boy from being molested. They knew it was about to happen and allowed it to proceed in order to get a good story (and profit from it)
