I have also heard that if you get a regular onion and cut it up and put it on a plate and just let it sit next to your bed, it will absorb alot of bacteria, old wives tail, sure, but there is some science to it, so I read

aircon.

day 2 (when sober) open the grills on the aircon unit, remove the filters and rinse them in the sink.

9 times out of 10 they will be thick with dust

I am intrigued to know what this actually does and if you could enlighten me it would be appreciated as i have never heard this before. :GoldenSmile1:

I think it from the AC or from kissing of different girls everyday.

I too agree with aircon. However, i don't think the glasses of water are advised. If anything its being too humid coupled with the cold air. here in the north where i live (wtf i sound like im a viking or something) during winter months it gets very dry with the heat on. it would be then that moisture needs to be added to the air. thai air is humid enough i would think. aircon makes even worse unless the aircon is a super deluxe witha built in dehumidifier. if its a wall unit, its not a deluxe.

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks."

The glasses of water are help to replace the moisture in the air that is lost through using the aircon. Not sure if it works but some say it does :GoldenSmile1:

It is definitely the air-con. Tried this last trip to have much less and it made a huge difference.

Use the aircon to cool the room and then leave it on fan only. Takes a bit of stuffing around...

For me I'd say its the copious amount of beer I consume and all that thai poontang I chew on, which sometimes can be a bit unsavory resulting in an infection. Which leads to a visit to Dr Olivier for some antib's.....

The aircon fucks me up something bad..My barfine's get pissed cause i will not sleep with it on!

I have studied this like mad because I get sick everytime and really need to avoid it on my next trip.

1. Keep hydrated on flights, before and after. Your adrenaline is at peak when you arrive at your destination, so your body is really being tricked into thinking it is not tired.

2. It will cause some blow back, but rest when you arrive and drink plenty of water.

3. Start taking vitamins if you do not already a month before your trip. Your body is shocked when traveling on a plane, especially long haul. Prepare yourself.

4. If you are not worried how people think you look, wear a quality air mask. Airplanes (at least older) recycle the air on the plane. Meaning if someone is sick in first class, the air they expel is going to end up in your area.

Once on the ground get a vitamin B shot after you have had some sleep, not before. If you get it before you are again, tricking your body and it may just delay something. Once you have gotten some sleep go to the local med clinic and ask for a vit B shot.

Finally, my expertice. I have worked in HVAC for almost 20 years. AC units remove moisture from the air, this is how they cool a humid enviroment. Hot dry desert climates do not use AC units, they use swamp coolers because the AC will cool a dry hot enviroment very quickly. Ever notice on a hot dry day that your AC cools your house quickly. Also on a cool humid day your AC rarely runs but you feel sticky.

Example is if you put a chilled glass of water or beer in a room that is humid, it condensates, the air going over the chilled glass removes moisture.

If you are coming from a climate that is not hot than the air is naturally dry most of the time, especially in the house. You go from a house that is dry to a outside area that is dry, your body is not shocked. In Thailand you constantly go from a moist enviroment (not pussy guys) to a cool dry enviroment.

With the equipment in hotel rooms it is very difficult to keep the room with a decent relative humidity level, since you are removing it. If you can hack it, run the AC to the most tolerable high, this will keep some moisture in the air. Wash the filter, it is easy and can be done in a couple of minutes.

The only other option is to find a humidity machine that you can buy in Thailand, this is extreme. But it will put moisture in the air, relieving some of the issues with dry air. I am not even sure they sell them in thailand but you can actually install them on AC units here in the states as this is a common issue in the summer.

Hope this helps anyone.

I,ve gotten them in the best staying at older hotels from the ac. Then i started renting condos and have not gotten them. This past trip for xmas to new years i stay at Areca Lodge and got a sore throat with 5 days left. Like a dumb ass ii did not treat it and it turned in to strep throat throat the last 2 days. Likely i stopprd into pharmacy and got a course of amoxicilyn which cleared it in 5 days. Let it be a warning

Ask for a room that has not been vacant long, hopefully one that has just been vacated.

Its the bacteria in the aircon as many have said. If the aircon hasnt been used for a few days this accumulates then blows out when you start it up. Also do as previous poster says, clean the filters on arrival.

The bowl of water on the floor seems to help a little. maybe the onion too - never heard that one before.
