Not really a problem.

The offending BIB will just split the fines with the investigating officers.

The system will get back on track and both parties will be happy.

This story was a little different when I read about it a couple of days ago.

Traffic Police Officers and Police Volunteers suspended over corruption allegations in Jomtien

Two Traffic Police Officers and two Police Volunteers have been suspended following allegations they accepted a bribe in exchange for the release of a drug suspect. The officers were stationed at a Police Box on the Sukhumvit Road close to the Ambassador City hotel in Jomtien and had set-up a checkpoint on Thursday Morning. They stopped Khun Jedarin aged 18 on his motorbike and conducted a roadside urine test which he subsequently failed. He was then allegedly told by the officers that in exchange for 5,000 Baht in cash, he would be released without charge. Khun Jedarin then contacted his girlfriend to arrange collection of the money from his parents who decided this was unlawful and contacted Chonburi Police headquarters and the Banglamung Police Chief to investigate the case in conjunction with the Na-Jomtien Police Chief. Undercover officers were sent to the area around the Police Box and waited for the money to be handed over before they moved in and detained Police Captain Somporn, Traffic Police Sub-Inspector, Police Senior Sergeant Major Wirapon and two Traffic Police volunteers, Khun Nipon and Khun Boonleu. Khun Jedarin was later charged with consuming a class 1 drug and the officers and volunteers are now facing charges of extortion.

Who would've ever suspected that a Thai policeman would be corrupt!

Who would have guessed that this fact would ever be acknowledged or made public.

Gaee lao. mai law doi. Mai ben rai, mee daang!

I'm sure this is just a misunderstanding - the police would have settled for less than 5000.
