How's this for rotten bad luck

I flew back to BKK from Perth two and a half weeks ago. About 2 days after returning I got a cold/virus. The actual cold was not heavy and passed quickly but it got into my lungs and I developed a hacking cough. Within a couple more days it had devoloped into Bronchitis. So for the past week 2 weeks I been on antibiotics and a vast assortment of other meds. I'm slowly recovering but still have another week on antibiotics. So, no alcohol, can't even have cold drinks, just warm drinks, can't even go sit in a bar or pub because the smokers in there will send me into a fit of hacking. So no bars, no piss, no nooky even. Just sit in my room every evening looking TV and looking internet. Fuck! What rotten bad luck. Anyway, today went to Bua Khao clinic and got a shot of high-powered antibiotic in the ass, another shot tomorrow, and a third and final shot the day after. Hope to have this fucking virus clubbed to death by next week. Wish me luck guys, I need it.

I suppose the only "good" aspect is I live in Thailand and have returned from a few months back in Oz. So in another week or two I'll be right again and can get back into it. If however this had been a 2 or 3 week holiday - what a fucking disaster that would be.

By the way there's a coughing virus getting around, I hear Thais coughing often, several people I talked with today said they know folk with this nasty cough/brochitis.

Hi Mate How you doing ?

Just thought I would chip in with a little information as I have read your Post, and felt that I would not like to see you being ripped off and paying Monies for a treatment that may not be doing you any good.

You said about a Virus and what you have described sounds very much like it. It is quite possible your own Body is fighting it and not the Meds and your suffering about any Booze, or lack of it, could be a path that you do not need to steer clear from.

I enclose a little reading from some of my Medical Crap I have for your attention, and maybe allow you to further make a decision on your treatment.

Most illnesses are caused by two kinds of germs: bacteria or viruses. Antibiotics can cure bacterial infections – not viral infections.

Bacteria cause strep throat, some pneumonia and sinus infections. Antibiotics can work.

Viruses cause the common cold, most coughs and the flu. Antibiotics don’t work.

Using antibiotics for a virus:

• Will NOT cure the infection

• Will NOT help you feel better

• Will NOT keep others from catching your illness

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How do I know if I have a viral or bacterial infection?

-Ask your healthcare provider and follow his or her advice on what to do about your illness.

Remember, colds are caused by viruses and should not be treated with antibiotics.

Won't an antibiotic make me feel better quicker so that I can get back to work when I get a cold or the flu?

-No. Antibiotics do nothing to help the viral illness. They will not help you feel better sooner. Ask your healthcare provider what other treatments are available to treat your symptoms.

Anyway Mate the best thing you are doing is taking it easy and sounds like it has almost been kicked into touch.

Feel better soon

Sounds like the same thing that I had upon returning from Patts in November. It took me over 3 weeks to get rid of it.

But I didn't go to the Dr because, as Ghost Medic mentioned, they would have given me antibiotics for something that was probably a viral infection.

a quick 10 minute CRP screening will reveal if bacteria are present or not (this time includes going in, talkng to the nurse and doctor, doing the little cut in the finger and waiting 2 mins for the results)

I had something like this when I returned from a holiday to Pattya last June.

The coughing got progressively worst even though I was on medication for it.

In the end the only thing that worked was a steroid inhaler they use for asthmatics (which I am not)

It fixe me very quickly....

That said I am not a doctor so don't just go out randomly purchasing this stuff but speak to a doctor about this if the coughing continues.

Hope you are better soon mate.

Last feb went to AC for 12 days, on my 5th day I woke up that morning with a bad case of diarrhea my LT from the night before went to pharmacy to get me meds, which started to work after a few doses. The next morning I woke up with a cough and a little congestion as the day went on it got worse. Called my LT from the night before she came over and suggested I go to hospital. Long story short.. Went there and diagnosed with upper respiratory tract infection, I had fever, cough, congestion and diarrhea. They gave me meds for all and told me to stay in bed for the remainder of my trip...fuck! Hate being alone when I'm sick, so kept my girl with me, couldn't fuck or anything but nice to have the company...Hope you get better soon!

OK guys thanks for all the tips and get-well-soon wishes. The word 'virus' is mine, I have no idea if I have a viral or bacterial infection. Like planeman2011 what I have is an upper respiratory tract infection. And the good news is I feel a marked improvement today, so I reckon that shot in the ass is doing its job. Last week another doc I saw said I should have a shot in the ass but I said lets just go with the capsule antibiotics, then yesterday when the 2nd doc said I need a shot in the ass, I thought right lets go with it. And it seems (so far today) that I'm now over the worst.

Thanks in particular GHOST MEDIC999. My remarks about no booze & bars were really aimed specifically at the readers of this forum, I'm a very moderate man, don't drink much at all, just a couple of beers a couple of times a week, gave up smoking years ago. Try to live a healthy lifestyle. But I am bored and would sure like to go sit in a couple of my regular hangouts and have a couple of coldies and shoot the shit with the gals, but that's not possible at the moment.

I have the cough when I was returning to the States 2 weeks ago...it lasted for two weeks too. I blamed it on the Thai L&M cigerettes I smoke., but yes , it is a bad one, can't smoke, or drink and always have a kind of fever for days.

cheers, Tommy of Richmond

why sleep if you are going to get up anyway?

I had a similar situation years back, flying over from the US I sat next to some old lady coughing every few minutes. Sure enough, my 1day in Patts and I feel an illness coming on, fever, sore throat, etc. I hit it hard and fast with meds, mouth washes and water. Luckily it passed quickly and I was back to shagging in no time.

No worries about that at all mate, I had a complete blood screening done in Perth just over a month ago, hiv, hep A,B,C, syph. All negative and I've had no sexual contact with anyone since then. It's bronchitis, I've had it before in my life, in fact it seems to come around about every 4 - 5 years.

I'm off for my 2nd shot in the bum. The one yesterday has done wonders I feel like 50% improved already.

There is something going around, I've read the same thing on other forums, I had a very heavy cold for for about 7 days, thought it went, then a few days later got something like th Pubstud described, right in my throat now, hacking cough, bring up loads flem.

My cure is loads VitC and hot herbal tea with lemon honey and a good slug of Sang Song, loosens it all up

Yep something going around for sure. Mine's a dry cough though, no phlegm coming up, just hacking, but it's getting better now - about fucking time, been 2 weeks now. I got the 2nd injection in the bum today and asked the doc, she said it's a bacterial infection of the upper respiratory tract, so these shots of powerful antibiotics are doing the trick.

By the way I'm impressed with Bua Khao Clinic on Soi Bua Khao not far from the corner of Soi Chaiyaphum. I think they're really a VC clinic but that's OK because they're experts on bacteria anyway. Their prices are fair and it seems they give you powerful medicine, which is not always the case.

Half the town is coughing, Thais and falang alike. I've got it now too but am recovering slowly and doing better.

Yep I'm finally on the mend. Had my 3rd and final shot in the bum today. Not coughing much, just a little bit here and there a couple times a day, I feel a definite improvement and anticipate this fucking thing gone within the next few days. Thais tell me there's lots of these bacterial lung infections getting around post flooding, so I suspect that's the origin.

One of the baddest things I'm finding is the amount of smokers there are in Patts, I'm not talking bars but just walking around the streets and along the beach road, so much cigarette smoke getting blown in front of me. I'm from Perth and smokers there are like non-existant. Aussie smokers are like junkies, do it in there own homes or slink off to dark private places to have a fix. But here, for fuck sake, smokers everywhere. Seems like 99% of all Brits, Europeans, Russians, Indians all smoke.

Anyway, that's my whinge for today...lol

Good to hear that you're getting better. Did the Dr give you anything so you can sleep at nite without coughing? When I had my cough I was alright during the day, but when I would lay down I would start coughing and it would keep me up all nite. So I wouldn't get a good nights rest, which would contribute to it taking longer to get better.

Bacterial lung infections post flooding definitely seems plausible.
