Do the Thais get confused with dates

Maybe its me but if I say to a local Thai i will be back on the 21st of March they don't seem to comrehend. Is there a better way to say so they understand.

They're not confused with dates but with the language. Can you say "March" in Thai? If not, you can't blame the Thai for not knowing the word March in English. Show them a calendar to make sure you get your point across.

As Caprice said, you have to find a way to establish the month - next month is easy of course.


When referring to the day, don't use 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th etc - doesn't work - just say Number 21, Number 22 etc - no problem usually.

calander mobile phone should help, or as i just done, downloaded as english - thai dictionary app. another useful one http://www.thai-language.com/ref/months . ee sip et is the number (21), maa pratet thai, is come back country thai



they dont comprehend what might happen next day, let alone 3 months.

"number 21 month number 3" will probably work... holding up fingers increases the odds (Thai words for month and day are duan and wan respectively - learn these and combine with fingers and you're pretty much sorted)
