I bought two iphones a couple of weeks ago. Went with my TG of the day to Wavecom on the first floor in Tukcom.

 

I was told that they were iphone5's (????). Cost was 2000 Baht each. Also bought an ipad for 3500 Baht.

 

Bought them for a friend of mine here in UK, and he tells me that they are working fine.

I suspect the ones you purchased were not the genuine article but certainly good to hear that they are working fine!

 

My wingman is heading out to Pattaya in December and his special lady wants the latest iPhone! He asked me to find out if it would be cheaper to buy from UK (£499 from Apple direct) or pick one up over there...

They've got real ones in Tucom... they're pricey though... was something like 500+ UK Pounds....

 

You can find them on only one stall... the stall that does the iPhone unlocks and has the huge Mac screen.

One store in tukcom and another store in Central festival shopping mall is re seller of Apple product i guess. The Central festival store seems much bigger with all apple variants. In tukcom you can unlock your Iphone if you need. But if you want android phone its available every where with good price tag.

I gave my Thai Gf my iphone 4 before i left... I am from USA and it was a verizon iphone 4...

She said that the phone people told her it would not work in Thailand..

 

I did not have it unlocked ....

 

Can they unlock it in Thailand to allow her to switch to Thai SIM?

I done a lot of trawling on international websites and shops in pattaya and found they are basically the same price no matter where you go... unless obviously you take one with a plan. Apple seem to have this covered.

if it was a 4 not a 4s verizon phone then it does not take a sim card it is a CDMA and cannot be unlocked for Thailand

You will need a phone capable of working on GSM 900 0r 1800 to allow a Thai SIM to use (even if unlocked). I think US phones work on different frequency (or system in Verizon's case) ?

Bought my iPhone 4S a few days ago. Think it was 25,000 THB and I bought it at a cell phone stall on the second floor of the Big C Mall on 2nd Road. Guy threw in a case and the screen protector.

I would think this would be correct. Retailers hate Apple with a passion. Apple give them almost no margin but they are pretty much forced to carry Apple products because the consumer demand is so high. as Apple set the whoesale price worldwide i doubt there will be much of a difference in the price of the product regardless of where it is purchased. i could be wrong however.

Nah man, you are right. It's not just the 4s as mentioned on this thread, but all their products. Been looking at a MacBook pro and the situation and price is the same and they are expensive pieces of kit. This thing is gonna be four times more expensive than my first car!
