arrival good, long walk to immigration, it appears that for such a new space they have not planned with scale in mind, it is LONG walk to immigration. contrary to reports, immigration is not quicker, no photos required on entry, so that has speeded things up slightly, but not a great deal.

baggage reclaim smooth, straight out, no fuss.

taxi's from 4th floor, escalator or lift. you will exit on ground floor from baggage reclaim and get hassled by taxi touts, but head up to 4th, much cheaper.

loads of exchange places as you get outside arrivals, usual local tour kiosks out there also.

are you planning to pre-book taxi before arrival? areca offered me taxi for 2000bt, but ive told them to ram it, i wouldnt pay more than 1500.

got a transfer last time from dynasty bangkok included, so have not paid for taxi from bhumi yet. so am unsure of costs. if you are pre booking, let me know where cos i might also.

cheers

Immediate needs: More toilets, more signs to direct passengers around the airport. Lines at Immigration were same as Don Muang.

I had to wait longer for my luggage than I anticipated, even with the knowledge gained by reading boards like this.

It can be a solid 10 minute walk from the plane to the immgration processing area (I timed it @ 7.5 minutes; I was walking at a quick pace, using the walkways).

It can also be a hike to your taxi from the terminal.

Positives: There is decent food, drink and shopping if you arrive early.

The lounges for airlines are very nice, but hard to find. I used the EVA lounge and it was plush, including 2 large flat screen TVs. They also advised take-off was delayed on my flight, which helped a lot (see my warning about gate waiting area size.)

To locate airline lounges, I'd ask an airport employee as opposed to following the ill-placed signs.

Security after getting your boarding pass is a breeze.

Plan on hanging out in the shopping/eating area as long as possible; the wait area next to your gate will be small, and usually crowded.

i came through last november depends which gate you arrive the walk to immigration can be 10 mins only small q s at immigration arrived at 15.00 hrs so depends on how many planes have arrived hadsame problems at don muang could be few minutes or an hour ..a depressing walk from aircraft like walking through a motorway tunnel needs some paint or posters to brighten it up..i decided to see how the buses to pattaya were operating so got a shuttle bus to the terminus what a journey thought i was going into bkk but they have buses to all parts of thailand if you are going upcountry / unfortunately the 2 services to pty would mean a couple of hrs wait so i negotiated with a taxi ? for 1300 bhts and arrived in about 1 1/2 hrs. coming home was quite easy dropped at available space as there were a lot of cars into check in area find out from screen which desk then pay dep tax and into immigration then you arrive in the massive shopping area apart from this it was was all dull and dingy //hope by next visit they put a lick of paint on the concrete

Found this good guide Suvarnabhumi Airport

Suvarnabhumi Airport Quick Facts

Official name

Suvarnabhumi Airport. The name Suvarnabhumi was chosen by HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej which means "The Golden Land", specifically referring to the continental Indochina. "Golden Peninsula"or "Golden Land" is a traditional name for the Thailand-Cambodia-Laos-Burma region

How is it pronounced

"su-wan-na-poom"

Airport Code

Suvarnabhumi Airport inherited its IATA airport code BKK from Bangkok Don Muang International Airport. In the interim period while both airports were operating (from September 15th to September 28th) Suvarnabhumi used the code NBK.

Location

The airport is located in Racha Thewa in the Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan province, 30 kilometers east of Bangkok.

Hours of operation

24 hours.

Facilities

130 passport control checkpoints for arrivals, 72 for departures.

26 customs control checkpoints for arrivals, 8 for departures.

22 baggage conveyor belts.

360 check-in counters. There are 100 additional counters for passengers without luggage.

107 moving walkways.

102 elevators.

83 escalators.

Architects

The airport was designed by Murphy/Jahn Architects

Capacity

The airport has 2 parallel runways (60 m. wide, 4,000 m. and 3700 m. long) and 2 parallel taxiways to accommodate simultaneous departures and arrivals. It has a total of 120 parking bays (51 with contact gates and 69 remote gates) and 5 of these are capable of accommodating the Airbus A380 aircraft. With a capacity of handling 76 flight operations per hour, both international and domestic flights will share the airport terminal but will be assigned to different parts of the concourse. In the initial phase of construction, it will be capable of handling 45 million passengers and 3 million tonnes of cargo per year. Between the airport hotel and the terminal building are the two 5-storey car park buildings with a combined capacity of 5,000 cars.

Airport hotel

Above the underground rail link station and in front of the passenger terminal building is the 600-room hotel operated by Accor Group under the Novotel Suvarnabhumi brand.

Long-term plans

Long-term plans for four runways flanking two main terminals and two satellite buildings with a combined capacity capable of handling up to 100 million passengers and 6.4 million tonnes of cargo a year are on the drawing board. The second phase of airport expansion involving the construction of a satellite building south of the main terminal is expected to begin 3 to 5 years after the completion of the first main terminal.

Using the 4th floor for taxis. Is this arrivals i.e. the same as the old airport jump into a taxi the somebody else is getting out of??

Genuine question. I'm not trying to be funny.

  • 3 weeks later...

One thing I add ,

if you have a driver picking you up , it easy .

as you walk out pass customs there all standing there , in full view .

no turning left or right , so now you can't miss them .

If you do have a car- driver waiting, the BIG screen outside tells them which exit you come out of and thats where they will be waiting A.B,C,.........A for domestic, B-C international just check after u arrive on the screen inside for which one you are suppose to come out of.

if you happen to miss them try the other exit.

To reverse this can someone give a guide for departing the new Airport; taxi, check in, saying goodbye to the girl and passport control?

there must be a few experts by now.
