Connecting laptop to a TV...

Recommended Posts

Hi fellas. The sound on my laptop is a bit crappy for music / films so I thought I'd use my TV speakers instead. I bought a 3.5" jack to composite audio (red & white) cable & have connected it to my laptop headphone socket / TV audio composite ports; nothing! No signal! Nada!

Can this be done or do I have to have the yellow video cable connected as well for it to work? :Fuck_Knows:

You would not need the Video (yellow) for the audio to work

As the previous reply be sure you are on the correct INPUT for the Audio connector you used

Also check the output for the Laptop IS there a VOLUNE control for Headphones (analogue or digital

Cheers guys.

Yes I'm using the correct ports on the TV as I use the same ones for my Wii & that works OK. Also I use my earphones all the time on my laptop.

Why would audio only not work when I can connect my camera (video) only to the video port? I guess the video port has some sort of activation electronics in it, or something. Maybe I could try connecting the laptop audio & camera video together; I'll let you know how I get on.

Why would such a cable be available if you can't use it? :Fuck_Knows:

You need to tell the computer that the TV is a second monitor. Totally depends on your operating system but if you are running Windows 7 just right click on an open area on your desktop and select Screen Resolution on the menu and click it. You will need to enable the second monitor. You can also do this by going to Start/Programs/Accessories and selecting Connect to a Projector. Make sure you select that one and not Network projector.
