Review: Drunken Duck Guesthouse - Soi LK

Four mates and I checked into the Drunken Duck to kick off Birthday Bash 2011 on 31/08. We stayed for a week before moving into a rental villa for some serious partying and then spent the final night in town at the Duck.

I had Room #1, Coop was in Room #2, AJ was in Room #6, Danny was in Room #5 and Johan was up on the top floor in Room #12. I'll review my stay and if any of the others want to chime in - please do so...

Once again I had a very nice stay at the Duck. Room #1 overlooks Soi LK and the Devils Den! The room was spotless and the only thing that could be faulted was the A/C unit wasn't blowing very strongly. The room took a bit longer to cool down, but once cool it was fine. The bed has a firm mattress, which I prefer, and I slept soundly each night/morning.

Management: The place is run by a gent named Tony (BM ting tong tony) - who is a very friendly guy - and just loves to meet and interract with his guests. It would have been nice to see Bobby (part owner) (BM Green Malaka) - but he was enjoying the weather in Canada at the time so I'll have to see him on a future trip.

Cleaning Staff: The Duck has two cleaners and they are just the friendliest cleaning ladies I have met in Pattaya. I left money (small bills and change) on my dressing table and my netbook on the nightstand and I never had to worry about anything being stolen. They do a great job daily on the rooms!

Bar Staff: The day cashier (Kwan) is a very nice lady. She was always friendly and was quick on providing refreshments to our group. The night cashier (Lee) is my adopted sister - she's a sweetheart! Very lovely lady!

BG's: There's a nice selection of BG's working here. One or two have been mentioned in recent posts here on PA. I have yet to BF one of them because I like to stick to the rule about not going with in-house ladies, but just an FYI... This is not a problem here at the Duck. Tony reassures his guests that the ladies understand we farangs are on holiday and will be sampling as much of the local "cuisine" as possible, so the girls do not have hang-ups about this.

If you are a Pattaya newbie or a hardcore veteran you won't go wrong staying at the Duck. Great place with an excellent location!

Cheers all!

Thanks for the review... I'm booked in for 25 nights over Christmas and New Years and it looks like it'll be a great base to operate from.

Great report! - and deservedly so.

Likewise, I stayed there a couple of times earlier this year, and was impressed by the great attitudes of the management and key staff, the overall friendly no-hassle atmosphere, and the location.

Each time I took one of the 1st floor front rooms (#1 & #2, each with a balcony overlooking Soi LK) which were comfortable and well equipped (safe included). Nothing flash, no nonsense, no annoyances, and good value for money. Anything that's not quite right (sticky door, bulb gone, etc) gets prompt attention - feedback on details like that seems to be genuinely appreciated.

The location is excellent, Soi LK being an extremely convenient all-purpose place to stay, with plenty of everything within literally 2 minutes walk, including all manner of food, several 7-11s, pharmacies, laundries, barbers, scooter rentals, etc, plus a fantastic selection and variety of entertainment emporia. Easy walking distance to Second Road, and to several areas/sois that specialise in massage, too.

During my last visit I was taken ill (not accommodation/food/Pattaya related), and both management and staff repeatedly went the extra mile to help me out. Despite a very sudden premature checkout for a short stay in hospital, they very happily welcomed me straight back at short notice a few days later even though they knew for sure there was a good possibility I'd be a lot more trouble than a regular healthy guest. Their help made a difficult time much easier and less stressful, I was very lucky and very happy to be staying there when it happened.

I've been going to Thailand for many years, IMHO this would also be a great place for those booking their first-ever visit to Amazing Pattaya.

To sum up: this was a place where I really felt everyone genuinely had my comfort, safety, and best interests at heart. Highly Recommended!
