McFly, why do you need a VPS ?

Is it just for surfing or do you wanna run some proggys on it ?

What size of HD you need ?

Does it have to be auto-restarting or not ?

To answer some questions already asked... I want a Windows VPS so I can log into and do some work that requires some file transfers for a few clients. For those that don't know, with a Windows server you can log into it and it looks like a PC with Windows installed and you can install Windows programs etc. A VPS is a Virtual Private Server. Instead of a dedicated machine, or cheap shared hosting, you're sharing with a limited amount of people are are allowed dedicated space and allocated dedicated amount of ram.

The 10mb/1mb connection just times out on the uploads in Thailand, so I figured I'd give a Windows server a try. I've found some ranging from $20-40 and I'll give them a try to see if they can fit my needs. TOT has Fiber to Home 10mb/10mb. It's available where I live, but I think the fee is too high. A site of interest is: http://top11hosting.com/vps_hosting_plans.php and here's the Fiber details.

Dont know about the VPS but how do you experience your TOT Fiber Connection? Just posted a thread in the expats section. Currently have the 3BB premier package at 2700 baht per month but not really happy about it so need to have a proper new one so this can be the backup one..

Sorry for abusing your thread :)

Can anybody recommend a dependable yet affordable Windows VPS?

I have been using XSserver.eu for 8 months now. I have 2 x $35 a month shared server and i would recommend them. I would not recommend their dedicated servers though if thats what you want as i am told (by someone who upgraded) that there is not much difference between their shared and dedicated servers so you pay extra for not alot. hence i have 2x shared VPS which is perfect for my personal needs.

I use TrustVM. Which uses a remote desktop log in. Mine right now is Windows 7 so there is no mucking around with server setting. Decent Cpu and 4 gigs of memory for 36 dollars they have a 1 and 2 gig that is much cheaper.

But I have only been with them 2 weeks

i use a vps from damnvps aka thrust vps here http://www.thrustvps.com/ cost me a wopping $15 a month.

had problems in the beginning, had them migrate me to a different server now ive had about 5 weeks of the server online with no restart or logon issues.

if your looking for something budget i recommend them, runs, scrapebox, amr, senuke and BMD (runs two tools at once fine too) and other tools just perfect, there is no support unless you pay so you need to work out how to do everything on there but its good.

also use it as a smtp relay for mass emailing(but i only have a tiny list need to collect a few email addresses but im so busy i need the time.

oh it also works great if you want to use it as a gateway for surfing the internet in Thailand as the server is in Manchester so you wont get any of the problems with visa and mastercard additional security as you are really in the uk if u use it for purchases.

Except of having 100's of other domains and/or potential spammer on a VPS network - or large sites which are slowing you down or even a hacker which takes the actual VPS server down because he tries to fuck a complete different business operator. You do not know with which guys you are sharing the server anyway. Another problem is if you have your clients base in the US and a server in Europe and your actual place of business is in Asia. Why routing to the west if the way east is shorter, quicker and more convenient ?
