Are you terrified by the statistics on AIDS

So you really believe that most governments and every health professional working in the HIV/AIDS field is in on some sort of conspiracy. A conspiracy to make millions of people sick so they can make money!!!?? What has famine relief got to do with this issue?

I will leave you to it now.

Oh you must be correct because the government or the public would never allow mass murder for profit....

Oh wait have you ever heard of cigarettes??

Famine relief has everything to do with this issue if you bothered to watch the documentary you would see that.

"Know your enemy" would be pretty good advice, I guess. Subtype-E which is all over Thailand gives you 1 in 200 odds, which is quite a lot riskier then what you suggest.

OK my bad. Could you link to a reputable source? Not being funny, just genuinely interested.

Two of my good friends contracted HIV from Thai bar girls many years ago. I got over the initial denial/fear process after a few years and now I'm at the stage where I know for certain that it is a genuine threat to heterosexual mongers in Thailand who don't wear condoms but there's no real fear as such.

I realise that my two friends were both unlucky and that heterosexual transmission isn't that common although it is now beyond statistics for them both.Personally I deal with it by wearing condoms and then not worrying about it at all.

http://www.kingsofthailand.com/are-you-humping-your-way-to-an-early-grave-hiv-in-thailand/ interesting article, breaks it down to about 1 in 25k chance of sleeping with an HIV infected woman and catching it when not using a condom(estimating 1 in 75 sex workers are infected and 1 of every 500 vaginal sessions can catch it). When using a condom the chance is greater to be struck by and die by lightning, but it still exists. Using a condom only heightens the odds, albeit by 10x. It's commonly though you have a 1 in 500 chance of catching HIV from an infected partner without a condom, 1 in 5000 with, so there is still a chance.

A quote I found "From there on out, statistically speaking, things deteriorate pretty fast. If your partner is HIV-positive, your chances of getting AIDS after one night are 1 in 5,000 with a condom, 1 in 500 without. Have sex with an HIV-positive partner 500 times using condoms and your chances escalate to 1 in 11. Skip the gift wrap and they're 2 in 3."

The only SAFE SEX is none, wrapping it just makes it safer. With that being said I'm guilty of a few unwrapped sessions and the dice have been in my favor so far../knock on wood.

this is obviously a sensative area with everyone

a good idea would be to always use common senses

and after every trip to always go and get tested

According to these statistics shagging a random thai bar bird with a condom would be a 1 in 250k chance of getting aids. (1/75 * 1/500 * 1/10).

Pattaya here I cum ;)

"Why are farangs so stupid?" she asked and I had no answer to that.

Actually even less as most of the HIV positive girls tend to be in the rural areas due to the stringent testing at most bars/gogos. Now beach road is another story lol.

The test for HIV is also inconclusive and gives huge amounts of false positives.Who makes the testing kits? the same people that make the meds.

The regular testing is done with a elisa test and all positives are confirmed by a western blott or something like that. so you might say no false positive unless very very rare situations maybe. So stop this nonsense.....

Watching documentarie doesnt make you a expert even being a doctor doesnt make you a hiv scientists but there are some loose ends and yet it exists, there are actually well documented deaths with the same charactristics which should be aids.............

I didn't have time to follow up on this so don't know where he got his 1 in 200 stat?

In studies done on couples where one partner was HIV-positive and the other wasn’t, the infection rate was 10-14% per year for couples who did not use condoms at all.

This is not a per encounter rate. How many times did the couples have sex in one year? If they had sex once a week that would bring the probability down to less than 1%.

Although there are so many variables:

-Viral load of the infected person. (The amount of virus in his/her blood.)

Obviously but would average out over a large enough sample.

-Whether the infectee is male or female. (It’s easier for a woman to catch HIV from a man than vice versa.)

I quoted the rate for female to male transmission.

-Vaginal or anal sex? Obviously the risk is higher with anal sex.

Again, my figures were for vaginal sex.

-Other STDs? Having some other types of STDs can make you more susceptible to HIV.

I've not researched the rate increase per STD type so maybe someone could enlighten me?

-How much CCL3L1 (a gene that helps “fight” HIV) do you have?

I'd like to know more about this also.

This statement intrigues me ... where are you getting information about such "stringent testing" occurring in the bars?

Isn't the whole premise of 'House of Numbers' that HIV doesn't cause AIDS? Anyway it's a documentary produced by a conspiracy nut! :WTF1:

The chance of contracting HIV from a single encounter with an infected partner in Thailand is about 1 in 100,000; about the same chance you have of dying on the plane home.

There are other confounding factors, such as existing STIs which may act as a catalyst & the regional prevalence; nothing to get (too) worried about...of course practising safe sex is always good advice! :Eat_Me:

You would be more likley to get bit by a stray dog or a lady Boy in Thailand ,than you would be to get Aids--Safe Sex , stay clean ,good food and pleanty of rest ---Good to go

Depends on the place, but many will proudly tell you how often they are tested(and some such as DD will prove it on demand). To have a certified working girl card they have to have their testing up to date.

A WHAT???? You have really piqued my interest.

Out of continued curiosity, which bars have you personally been provided this testing information?

[EXCLUDE DD please]

LOL...that was my reaction as well.

If you value your health in Pattaya you must assume that none of the girls are tested regularly. Them being able to produce a piece of paper stating that a test has been done does not mean that the test was actually carried out. Corruption is rife from the very bottom to the very high in Thai society.

It worries me to bits. and would have never thought Corruption would exist in relation to a serious health issue like this one..

I am not really someone who could be called a denialist but I like facts and when it comes to aids statistiks in developing countrys i do not really belive them!

lets look to German average aids deaths that are among 500 a year, comming out of a pop.of 80 Million!http://www.apotheke-adhoc.de/nachrichten/panorama/431-aids-tote-in-deutschland

But there is a official quote of 135 000 "hard drug usershttp://www.pflegewiki.de/wiki/Drogen(dark quote signifficant higher). I dont know how many of the 500 aids deaths did use drugs but i guess alot .

So we have to consider that there are many other people who abuse medi drugs too.

So my question is how many of the deaths where healthy people that did fuck around and had no drug history or even a weak immun system from other causes fitting to the HIV Idea? I guess no one.

we are talking about the whole German population that intercourses every day ( all with condom?- lol) (and hetero couples having no anal intercourse -lol)

why the hell should Thai people die more often from aids caused by bum bum than Germans do?

where is the spread of the viral disease?

I am not talking to pull down the condoms but the fear.

A bit off topic but a true story. I have a relative who lives in Johannesburg South Africa. He works with a 50 year old African man who became very i'll. The man went to the hospital and was diagnosed with AIDS. My relative asked him what the hospital said as he returned to work ill, the man said " they say I have AIDS and I'm going to die ".

My relative who is his boss sent him to his GP as he thought he should get a second opinion and some treatment.

The hospital had not apparently done any tests, the man did not have AIDS. He was given some antibiotic for his condition and is alive and well to this day.

So it seems the hospitals just tell them they have AIDS save having to treat all the people. Doesn't mean AIDS is not real, just suggesting that in poorer nations some folks may have died from something else and they're family would have buried them thinking they have AIDS.

Sorry about the bold, can't seem to remove it !

wears those condoms...Use some gel or saliva on your bell end before putting it on and that lessens the chance of a break..Still don't believe anyone has ever caught HIV from sex with while using a condom that has not broke..But lets say its the best option..Then no worries..

Tuberculosis and Malaria are well known diseases for over hundred years now and still a plague and responsible for most deaths in developing countrys especially in Afrika but in Thailand too.

both can be a cronic illness and pass you away after years of getting it.

but if you die from it and you are a tested HIV positiv person your mortal diagnosis is AIDS.

Are you saying that because a person is close to death, caused by another disease, that their low white cell count is automatically assumed to be caused by AIDS? TB is a respiratory bacterial infection & the symptoms will be easy to diagnose, especially in the late stages & a simple test can be carried out for the presence of the bacteria.

@El Cata

Aids is not a special desease itself its (meanwhile 30) old wellknown .

http://en.wikipedia....and_Adolescents

I am not a specialist but if you try to find out how Aids came up and what all is behind that story it will open you many questions.

Watch what this man has to say about HIV virus last year:

he was the leader of the virologist team of the pasteur Institut in Paris in 1983 that found the HIV virus!

in 2008 he was honored with the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine . There is a extended interview with him on youtube, too.

For me this disease ist still a very wide opend book with many unanswered questions ,but make your own picture.

I don't know if it is directly related to this story but cases from South Africa like this need to be considered in light of the county's attitude to HIV over a certain period: South Africa's Deadly Decade of HIV Denial
