hello is it best to book a hotel or guest house for christmas or take a chance & just turn up

book, and make sure you take a printout of the booking. christmas is cut-throat i booked eastiny plaza for xmas once for 1500/night and arrived, but forgot to bring a printout and they upped the price to 1900/night
