Try Soi Diana Inn for Breakfast

As many of you know the Lek hotel raised its breakfast buffet price from 110 to 150. The worst of it is that they don't even have bacon anymore. Talk about a downgrade. For the last six weeks I have been eating breakfast at the Soi Diana Inn buffet on Soi Diana and 2nd Rd. Only 110 baht and great food. Their bacon is even better than the bacon Lek use to serve. They also have more cereal options. The only downside is that the breakfast buffet closes at 10:30, so it won't be good for very late sleepers.

Yes... Thanks very much for the tip, Sexyfarangman! I agree that the food at Lek has gone downhill at the same time that they raised their prices. I used to prefer Lek to the Buffet at Apex hotel (just a short distance north of Diana Inn on 2nd Rd.), but I think Lek has downgraded their food and is now no better than Apex. And they've both raised their prices to 150 Baht for Breakfast (and I think 250 Baht for Dinner). Perhaps neither is to blame - I understand that wholesale food prices have risen. I'll be giving Diana Inn a try. (A good alternative is Cafe Pitini on Soi Buakaow - about 200 meters north of LK Metro - although it's not a buffet there).

Thanks for the tip. I normally stay very close to Diana Inn. Don't they also have a lunch and/or dinner buffet?

Yes, they have a dinner buffet for 185. No lunch menu, though.

I know that there has been an increase in overall food prices. However, one of the reasons a restaurant or buffet raises its prices is that so it won't have to cut quality. As you have noted, the quality at both of these places has gone down. So the buffet prices have increased by about 40% while the quality has gone to shit. A hell of a business model. TIT.

I just don't understand why you would want to go to a buffet breakfast place, where the quality is shite and the price is appeox. the same as a substantial but freshly cooked breakfast.

I have tried the buffet breakfasts at both Diana Inn hotel and the Lek as well as the Apex hotel buffet - anyone who has been there will know exactly what I am talking about if I mention the runny scrambled eggs!

For a hearty breakfast priced at about the same as any of the 3 above,my top 5, in order of preference would be:

1. Sportsman

2. Rosie O'Gradys

3. Queen Vic

4. Tropical Berts

5. Crazy Daves

At non-buffet places can you:

--have your choice of unlimited coffee, tea, juice and milk for no extra charge over the cost of the breakfast?

--ask the server to bring you 2 more plates of the papaya at no extra charge because it was so good?

--ask the server to bring you two more pieces of toast at no extra charge?

--ask the server to bring you a couple more pieces of bacon at no extra charge?

--look over at another table, see that they have hash browns that look pretty good and ask the server to bring you some at no extra charge?

--and so on

Restaurants that have regular menus for breakfast are a good choice and the quality of the food can definitely be better, but there are definitely reasons to go to buffets, too.
