Gentleman,

I hope all of you are well.

Just a quick question if any of you have rented a sportsbike / harley and given your passport over and had any problems? I really want to rent but so scared as AUS government says dont give your passport to ANYONE. Makes sense but I cant fight my urge to rent a CBR or R1.

Ride safe all.

never hand your passport over to anyone except police or immigration, if they want particulars they can copy it , if they aren't happy with that I'd pass and go somewhere else.

You asked the question and got the definitive reply, under no circumstances give your passport to anyone, in particular a rental group. Whilst it is reasonable that they ask you for a copy, (which you should get done yourself).

There are one or two reputable large bike rentals, however if they ask for your passport walk away without further discussion.

:001_Thank_You5: very much Cerberus. Any chance you have a web link or contact number for the reputable place? I will check it out for sure. If not all good I shall stick with my no balls Nouvo.

Regards.

Go see Mrs. Pond on Beach Road and give her a cash deposit. Plenty of idiots leave their passports with her (She has shown me the stack) but it isn't necessary. She will jot down all of your passport details on the rental agreement.

She has a big selection of bikes and is very trustworthy. She's been there for years.

She is in that cluster of beer bars between Soi 8 and Soi 9 right there on Beach Road. Look for a woman in her late 40's or early 50's at a bar right in the middle of the cluster.

All the times that I have rented they have never asked to keep my passport, they normally have a look at it and write down the number and then hand it back.If someone asks to keep it as insurance then move on to another vendor.

Very good service from Mrs Pond Or Mr Dean same location...copy of driving licence and 2000baht deposit is ok! The missus managed to hit a dog and bent both front folks on a ER6N ! Got them straighted myself for 1200baht! would have cost a hell of a lot more if i took it back damaged (btw..your not aloud to do repairs yourself, so be carefull where you take it)....
