Hi all,

As a few of you might have seen at the bar or read on the forum Kilkenny has had Jimmy White and Ken Doherty play on our pool table. We're happy to announce that we've got Jimmy White coming back and this time he's bringing Tony Knowle along with him. For those that don't follow snooker I'll paste a little info on Jimmy and Tony for a quick read:

Jimmy launched into a snooker career at a very early age. In 1979 he won the English Amateur Championship, followed in 1980 by becoming the youngest-ever winner of the World Amateur Snooker Championship at the age of 18. Jimmy turned pro in the same year. This was the start of a professional career which has secured him a place in snooker history as one of the true greats. With 23 professional titles under his belt, including 10 ranking titles, the ‘People’s Champion’ is one of the world’s snooker legends.

Knowles shot to prominence in 1982 when he defeated defending champion Steve Davis 10–1 in the first round of the World Championship, earning him overnight stardom in a period when the sport was reaching the peak of its popularity. His good looks resulted in his relationship exploits featuring in the tabloid press. After some particularly sordid revelations he was fined £5000 by the governing body for "bringing the game into disrepute".[1]

He followed up his strong performance in the World Championship by winning the Jameson International in 1982 against David Taylor, and a year later was victorious in the Professional Players Tournament and reached the semi-finals of the World Championship, leading Cliff Thorburn 15–13 before losing 15–16.[2] As a result, he moved to no. 4 in the 1983/1984 world rankings.

He remained in the top 16 until the 1989/1990 season, peaking at no. 2 (eclipsed only by Davis). He reached the World Championship semi-finals on three occasions (in 1983, 1985 and 1986), but never the final.

So for all that would like to come and see the pros play in real life pop down on the 15th and enjoy the night. Entry in free. If you'd like to play Jimmy or Tony we are selling tickets of 1,000 baht each and you'll also get a photo of yourself and Jimmy or Tony. It'll be a great night and a great chance to see and play against some real legends.

Anyone interested in a ticket I'd recommend either popping into Kilkenny and buying one or send me an email if you're not in the country yet. [email protected]

Hope to see you all there!!!
