12call has 3G now I'd like to cancel my edge plan and opt for 3g

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've seen that they now offer 3G in parts of pattaya and bangkok. The price seems to be the same than unlimited EDGE, which is 800 bahts per month, so I'd like to cancel my edge unlimited plan and then opt in for the 3G plan, do you have the exact procedure to do it?

The page about the 3G plan is only in thai, I've translated part of it with google translate but it's not crystal clear at all:

http://www.ais.co.th/mobileinternet/3g/package/

And more explanation which hardly make sense to me when translated, but I caught that the edge plan needs to be cancelled before applying the 3G plan:

http://www.ais.co.th/mobileinternet/3g/package/moredetail/

Alternatively, do you know which shop, in which shopping mall or place is specialised in 12call or can give advise anyway?

Thanks!

Of course unlimited means you have 3GB in 3G and then after that it's only 384Kbps.. So that's unlimited***

***: but limited anyway

Why dont just call the callcenter, they are always very helpful to me and their english is good enough :)

Otherwise just go to the AIS Shop in Big C extra( former Carrefour) on the 1st floor..

First if you have like me subscribed in the past to the unlimited EDGE+ plan, you need to cancel it. To do so there is no simple code, you need to go through a voicemail service and type in the required numbers (choices) so that's how I did cancel my plan:

dial *300

Then press the following numbers each time the voice talks:

1 for english language

2

3

1 cancel plan

1 confirm cancel

Then after about 5 minutes you receive a SMS confirming your cancellation:

You have unsubscribed to your GPRS Package 799B Free EDGE/GPRS and Wifi UNLIMIT. If you want to subscribe again, please dial *138*79#

So now you can subscribe to the 3G/EDGE/Wifi plan by dialing this simple code:

*133*24# this is for the unlimited 3G (in fact limited to 3GB and then the speed drops to 384kbps) for 30 days at 799B

And then you'll receive a SMS confirming your subscription to the new plan.

Here are some other useful codes you can use at any time:

To know what plan you have, dial *139*3# and you'll receive a SMS with details of your current plan

Check your balance: dial *121# important since you need to have enough bahts credit in order to join the plan at 799B per month.

If you want to have your username/password for Wifi hotspots, dial *389# you'll receive your codes by SMS, your username is your phone number and your password is autogenerated it is only 4 numbers. Anytime you're at a restaurant or somewhere, look if you see 3BB hotspots on your phone, if you do then you can connect with the username/password provided, it's included in the plan.

Horrible mistake! On the 3G coverage map which is all in thai, no english version, I've mistaken pattaya map for another part of thailand.. It sure looked similar to me..

http://www.ais.co.th/mobileinternet/3g/coverage/#4

Here are a few screenshots to show the similarities of the coast:

AIS 3G coverage map next to a pattaya/jomtien map

ais-pattaya1.jpg

In fact the map is of someplace up north, named Samet

ais-pattaya3.jpg

Here we can see Samet and its surrounding looks much more similar to the AIS map, sure it didn't match exactly Pattaya..

ais-pattaya2.jpg

So it might mean that pattaya has still no coverage at all! What a lot of BS seriously! I've been fooled! Very surprising that Pattaya is not included, as if there was no potential customers here!

No 3G at Pattaya, only True but it is worst than AIS Edge !

Thank you for your maps but they are not clear :-)

I was told by Telewiz in Tukcom that AIS will have 3g in Pattaya in a couple months time, operating on the 900mhz frequency (true is 850mhz)

I don't know how true this is but thats what they said.

I hope they are right because the telephone network here is way behind the times. I was in Singapore the other week and they are already trialing 4g there!

Why it's so hard to get decent 3G up and running here is beyond me.

Because the clowns can't work out how to get the dough from it into their own pockets. Yep - seriously behind the rest of the world. 2 years ago I was involved in putting a 3G network in Rwanda, Africa. Streets ahead of Thailand.

Cheers,

So if you subscribe to the 3G package and coverage is sketchy or non existant it hardly matters as you're going to default back to Edge anyway ?? (which is what Im using anyway )

Is that correct ??

Yes that's correct, I did change plan and now still defaulting back to Edge everywhere in Pattaya/Jomtien. But it's the same price for unlimited (799bahts) and if I move out of town I might get a 3G signal in BKK or elsewhere..

Everywhere I go I get full signal on Edge so may as well default to the plan you suggest.

All important question then-is the AIS sim Im currently using capable of picking up 3G (assuming signal available) or do I need a "special" sim ??

I think the sim card is fine, it's your handset that matters. My sim card is one bought at 7/11 at random.

Rejoice people! From today I have 3G in pattaya and jomtien! On 12call (AIS) network.

Could you please confirm the 3G plan you are on. I have AIS Edge at the moment and would certainly like 3G if the cost is reasonable.

Check this thread's older posts I gave a clear explanation of everything.

I was on the EDGE unlimited plan, and have moved to the 3G unlimited plan (799 bahts a month) this summer because I thought pattaya had 3G coverage but it didn't. Then yesterday suddenly the 3G icon came up on my phone, so they switched on the service..

Yesterday I realized 3G is now in Pattaya. The 3G symbol didn't come up until I rebooted my phone. I can get it the center of town, Walking Street, and near Jomtien. On the edge network I use about 500mb per month.

When I had True I had unlimited 3g and used a ton of GB month, using it as my computer modem. But they removed that plan as an option, and once I changed I could change back (but was grandfathered in)

Change your plan here. I recommend changing it now and check every few months to see if they offer a better plan, and you'll be stuck with your plan unless you change. https://12calleservice.ais.co.th/EPPWeb/index.html

Hi,

If you change your package online on 12call website it will really cancel the previous one you had and start the new one ?

Or you will still have to pay for both if you haven't canceled the first package first ? And to cancel the only way is *300 shouting machine ?

Thanks.

Sign up online = not sure.

I called. They cancelled a service for me. Then they added a new service for me. I did this 1 day before my package expired to minimize extra charges.
