Hi I'm off to Pattaya on August 12th and really looking forward to my first trip; tripping and falling into a beautiful girl as well :-)

Is there a dress code for clubs like insomnia? Do they let you in with flip flops?

Also is there a thread on these forums that recommends clothing one should bring, and what you should leave behind?

I was reading one thread where guys were arguing/discussing the pros and cons of wearing shorts to bars and if that affected the girls view of the guy wearing them.

IMO..Don't need to overdoit.

Smart casual is enough if you feel you need to impress ( Buying drinks will cover that ).

I take a 10kg carry on bag for 2-4 weeks. Maybe too light for some.

Includes; compact camera, mobile, Ipod, basic toilet gear, no soap, shampoo, shaving foam & shit.

If you need something, buy it, cheap enough.

Just a few changes of clothes, laundry is fast enough.

Travel light, hit them hard & fast.

Cheers

Yeeeah I have travelled the whole world now with carryon. Definitely way to go, saves an s-load of time. I find that Rockport boat style shoes are perfect for thailand and travelling generally i.e. any shoes that can work in many formats are good, it is critical they are comfortable! Most nights at say Lucifer/Marine I wore shorts or 3/4 pants with the boaties. Dress code is pretty casual way more than anywhere else. A bit of effort is worth it. Had a blast every night.

Pack the case about a week prior, then go back an toss out half the stuff in it. As I'm on business some trips I have gotten used to taking one pair of lightweight pure wool biz trousers, 2-3 short sleeve cotton/poly shirts, 2 tshirts, 2 pairs shorts, and the other accessories. That works fine.

Only hand-luggage for me too,

Light-weight materials and light colours to keep you cool,

As long as you keep clean and sweet-smelling (difficult in the heat) you can get away with wearing pretty much anything, but I prefer reasonably smart shirts and trousers - to the 'chav' look, but there again at 50+ I don't look so good in T-shirts any more LOL. Clean and smart will always give you an edge I think?

And as has been said there are many small local laundry services that are very cheap (far cheaper than most hotel laundry services) so you can have a daily turn-around of your clothes for well under 100 baht.

As to packing, there are various threads in the Newbie Advice section but the most succinct advice I have seen was this. Neatly layout all the clothes you want onto the top of your bed - then put half of them back into your wardrobe and instead double the amount of money you are taking with you! Just works on so many levels LOL

Have a great trip, I hope to be arriving back in Pattaya again a few days after you!

If there's no breeze it can get really hot. As far as the way you dress... dress how you want, but in a way that it gives you confidence. Lighter clothes are best. White shirt under a button up = death in this weather.

If you come with a limited amount of clothes, you can get some high quality knock offs at Mike's Shopping Mall for a reasonable price. The laundry services do a good job. Over the last few years they only f'd up once and it was my new authentic Ralph Lauren shirt. I think they put some bleach in the water because the black was all messed up. The lady was practically in tears, gave me a knock off, and said she can pay me back for the shirt. Shit happens, I said to forget about it and thanks for being so honest about it.

Hello

I always travel in Flip Floos, and wear Shorts with a smart Shirt or Tee Shirt, never had an issue getting into anywhere..

Manners and Monies is what maketh the Man and as long as one does not or smell like a right grunge bag you should be fine..

The Girls will love you long time. Or short time LOL

Have fun

When I go out for the evening I dress myself in nice clean stylish clothes wherever I am, including Pattaya, maybe a sport shirt or Tshirt, jeans, shoes. The only exception to this would be if I was at a beach place like Krabi or Koh Samui and then I'd probably wear shorts & flipflops. But here in Patts, I prefer to dress smart. That's my take on it.

you will be amazed at some of the "fashions" on view around town -guys wearing , incredibly shiny silk shirts with short shorts , black socks and leather loafers accessorised with a nice bumbag ( fanny pack ) and of course for all occasions there is always the versitile wife beater supporting the Chang or Singha logo :D

Personally during the daytime shorts and a polo shirt ( normally bought from Mikes ) and at night I prefer Jeans and a shirt, but whatever you feel most comfortable in will be fine

If it floats, flies or fucks It's probably cheaper to rent ...

Just remember that Pattaya is home to some of the ugliest, worst dressed white men on planet earth. so the fashion bar is set pretty low.

As someone already said Pattaya is a beach resort, so casual is the dress code. as long as your neat and clean you'll be fine. You can hit all the clubs in board shorts, t-shirt and flip flops as long as they're neat & clean. no mustards stains and big sweat marks on your clothes and remember lots of showers and don't forget your favorite scents

As far as packing goes I have a different view then the go light guys. If you're just going airport, taxi, hotel it's no problem bringing a bit of luggage. I like to bring my clothes from home since I don't like the stuff they sell in Thailand. I live at the beach so most of my wardrobe works well in Pattaya.

good Luck on your first trip. on the whole Pattaya is pretty easy, you'll do fine

Fair enough, lol. Yes, I do dress myself but I still prefer having someone help me undress :-)

On my last trip I saw a guy wearing chilli red collar shirt with white suit & white pants walking coming into Sapphire. The ladies for some reasons are laughing, strangely no lady approach him (at least I didn't notice). :Ignore1:

IMO, it's Pattaya, as long you have the bahts, you can wear whatever you like :)

It's better to pay now then to pay later. Nothing is free.

was he indian or did he try to sell Armani suites to anymore?

Armani suits and the latest fashions will go along way to impress. On the other hand, when I was in Insomnia 3 weeks ago I wore shorts, a tee shirt and sneakers, my usual attire when in Pattaya.

Not indian, I recall him having blond hair. Looks like a sexy humson man. I was trying to convince the 2 ladies that were with me to go ask if he wants company. They gave stared at me for some reasons :Circle_Sharks:

Maybe they figured that he was looking for male companionship with those clothes on ;)

To me it sounds like something Austin Powers would wear.

No shorts at night, no exceptions.

Take a look around who look the smartest at night, its not the guys walking around in shorts and open shoes, I gave this advise to a fairly new guy, and he was amazed at the difference it made to the girls attitude towards him, he never wears shorts now at night.

Perhaps he just popped into Sapphire to ask for directions to Boyz Town.

I travel for a living and the guys saying dump half the shit u pack are spot on. I take one set informal and one formal and just buy anything I forget. The hotels want $5 to wash a t-shirt that cost 2 bucks to buy. Socks and underwear I buy new, wear and toss....one pair of shoes and GOOD condoms :))))))

Riiiight on Mr. Ronbo!

The only thing I "really need to take" 4 boxs (48 units) of Sagami's 2.5 Dom's.

( Going to Chiang Mai for a few days... mmm... might leave a box...nah WTF! )

Need to have a top on. most inside places won't let you in topless, except a girl might get a way with it in a gogo.

Fashion in Pattaya is amazingly bad and funny so you don't really need to worry. You just need a little bit of confidence to chat to the ladies, o and a wedge of cash sometimes helps.

Sunglasses, polo shirts with the collar up and white shoes are a must in insomnia. You'll fit right in. LOL

It wasn't me
