Well, here I am finally.

Landed 13 hours ago, had an old mans kip for 11 hours then ventured out to buy toiletries and to try some of this famous Tom Yum soup. I can't get over how the humidity just swamps you, the screen on the plane showed it was 33 deg at 6am!

After having hardly any sleep for the best part of 3 days there was always going to be some kind of cockup in the wind. First off i got stung for £250 worth of excess baggage after the chap had sent my case down the conveyer belt when I could have dumped a load of stuff out. Then, after I thought I booked in for a week at Silom City Hotel Bangkok and printed off the taxi map from R24, it turns out I must have chaged my mind and settled on a week at for You residence Bangkok. I rolled up at Silom City, the chaps grabbed all my gear out of the taxi and took it in, everyone was really welcoming, this guy comes up to me with a glass of juice and says,'Welcome drink!', I filled out the form and then they say there's no reservation! I proudly pull out my email print off, only to be told I'd booked somewhere else Embarrassingly, I skulked off with my gear thanking them for the drink.

Anyhow, I popped out for a wander and was amazed how friendly everyone is.

I should be training at www.fightingspirit.com within a couple of days, I'll post a review once I've done a couple of weeks. Maybe i'll get a chance to meet up with some board members.

My case weighed 28kg with nothing but clothes, some small laptop speakers and a few CD's and books, I thought that was a normal amount to bring really, the bloody ticket was only £540

The hotel is called For You Residence, and it's on Silom road next to Soi 17, maaybe 15 minute walk from Patpong. I booked it through the R24 link in the hotels section for about 950BHT a night. Internet is nice and reliable and the receptionists are both gorgeous and very friendly like everyone else it seems.

 

On a funnier note, I forgot to post this earlier.

I got touted for a taxi from the smoking area and thought why not, 700BHT + tolls, then on the walk to the multistory he starts ringing someone on his mobile. He insists I get in the front,hmm ok then, then he says I can smoke and when I try to open the window it doesn't work and he starts flapping.

At this point all I'm thinking is that I've just got in a Ted Bundy cab and can't get out now, I'm about to get arsed raped and robbed of everything I own by the guy who he was ringing.

Turned out ok in the end even if all the offers of a better muay Thai gym, better massage parlours, better girls/bars etc did get a little tedious.

So it could have been worse then...I have had some strange taxi trips myself..Actually did a thread on it somewhere.. Driver pulled in to fill up in the gas station so I went to get some provisions for the journey..Came out..Taxi gone...Phoned him to ask him where he was ...He says..'Sorry I cannot speak have customer go airport' and he hung up on me...I call him back and say...'I am that customer and I'm not in the back, I am in the gas station!!'...

Sounds like a shaky start but I'm sure you will get into a rhythm shortly.
