GF rooms on Ko Samui….1st time going

Recommended Posts

Heading to Samui late February for my 1st time and was wondering of any recommendations for GF rooms. Prefer to pay no more than 2000 bht per night, have wifi, at least Queen size bed, ac, clean. Saw something about The Island Resort in Chaweng on another board and did not mention GF, I assume since it was posted on Phuket-info that it was. Also wondering input on pros and cons of Lamai vs Chaweng.

Thanks.

most hotels in the low to mid price range are girl friendly , where to stay Lamai or Chawang depends on what you want to do ,

Chawang has some beer bars , discos and a good beach and shallow at the start also more places to eat but accomadation is a little more expensive

Lamai has more beer bars only 1 disco and the sand is not so fine also the sea gets deep fast ,

when i go i stay in Chawang and sometimes do a trip to Lamai at night as it is only 20 mins by motorbike , if your not going to drive a bike taxis are VERY exspensive on Samui

"And were you pleased?" they asked Helen in Hell.

"Pleased?" answered she,when all Troy's towers fell;

And dead were Priam´s sons, and lost his throne?

And such a war was fought as none had known;

And even the Gods took part; and all because

Of me alone! Pleased?

I should say I was!"

I prefer Lamai, cheaper than Chaweng, better beach for swimming (deep water) Many others prefer Chaweng as it has more bars/nightlife. I think Chaweng is more scenic than Lamai, nice seafood barbeques on the Chaweng beach in the evenings. You can rent a motorcycle and drive between both beaches but this is not recommended if you're drinking in the evening as the road winds around cliffs and you could end up plunging into the sea below. There are also the usual maniac Thai drivers on the roads.

My best advice is to book no more than a week in a hotel, you could always extend your stay and if you want to move somewhere else you could go and look at rooms first and ask any questions and probably get a better rate. For 2000 a night you should get a very high quality hotel, you don't really have to pay that much. Go to thaihoteldiscounts.com and search your chosen resort, always book 2 guests and if you have any doubts whether they are guest friendly, call Tim from the website or look on the hotels own website and email them and ask, also check how much to book direct. In Samui there should be no problems with joiner fees.

I had a month there and split my time between Chaweng and Lamaii. In Lamaii the bars are closer together and I prefer it. Chaweng you have to look for them more and Reggae St is away from the centre, but there's not much other than tailors and shops on the high street. Samui is a beautiful island when you explore it so you need to hire a bike or jeep. Have a good time.

Ark Bar isn't bad in Chaweng.

Not 100% on girl friendly as i booked for two guests, but im pretty sure it is.

Lamaii hands down. Lamaii Inn 99. Get the Seaview or the Pool View. wj

Can't agree more ..... Lamai Wanta was also pretty good but the prices shot up this year (and I've heard rumours about them trying to charge for extra visitors on your way back to the loom).

Lamai Inn 99 is very central, contact them direct, definately girl friendly

I always stay at the island resort. Basic rooms but one of the cheapest on the beach & close to the main bars (soi green mango)

Wifi is not free tho, u buy a card from reception.

Safety boxes are in reception, 20baht everytime u need to open it which is a pain. Best to share it if your not travelling alone.

No problem taking girls back there.

The times ive been to Samui - I too have also stayed at the Island Resort and spa on Chaweng.

Right in the Think of things - right on the beach.

The actual hotel is pretty much falling apart - but the rooms are ok, and allows guests (some mates of mine brought someone back pretty much every nite).

If ya get a Bungalow - it has a safe (old school though - with a lock n key) - and a basic bathroom and veranda (if ya can call it that - lol)

Still - for the money - its awesome value

I know this might sound strange but are the rooms fairly soundproof?

If I'm going at it with a chick for an extended period of time is it going to disturb the other hotel guests and vice versa?

If I'm trying to sleep at 2 AM and somebody is going at it nonstop next door that would get to be a bit annoying after a while.

Can anybody elaborate on this? Thanx!

I know OP's post was 1 year ago but would like to say that winnburi resort and spa was 800baht per night or 8000baht per month and was everything i needed. Great room, free wifi. It was still being finished when i stayed (late 2011) so the price may have went up.
