Is Thai food healthy?

I think that many believe that Thai food is healthy. I know many that have lost weight eating nothing but thai food on their trips.

But then I look at videos of those street vendors cooking thai food in their woks, and often times I see a LOT of oil being used for pan frying. They seem to use a lot of seasonings also, like salt, fish sauce, sugar, etc. Even my favorite Tom Young soup uses a lot of cream and seasonings. But most Thai people seem pretty slim so it can't all be bad.

I'm not sure the nutritional breakdown of thai food, as I have not seen thai food being analyzed like that one organization in America did for things like Chinese food and movie theater popcorn.

Maybe relatively speaking thai food is healthy compared to something you eat at Outback steakhouse or Carl's Jr., but who knows.

There are healthy and unhealthy versions of food everywhere. It all depends upon how you strike the balance. Thai food eaten in normal life is supposed to a balanced diet with mixture of greens for fibre, little bit of meat for protein and rice for carbs. In earlier days meat usd to be luxury and people used to eat it in moderation, but these days people eat a lot of fatty meat like pork, duck and beef is only eaten in a few regions. I have seen lots of people suffering from diabetes and cholesterol even in villages of Isaan region.

There are still various good versions used whereby people eat frogs (kop), fish and bugs etc. This meat is low in fat and high in protein.
