Modern Day "Slavery"

Gee, wonder how long it took these tossers to come up with this "original" idea. Neeever would have guessed that any "activist" would have equated Pattaya with sexual slavery

Love the sad piano music.

So how is it that one is a "slave" when they are being compensated in a profession which they entered into and stay in entirely of their own free will? What, because they might not have the qualifications to do something else or obligations that require them to continue to make money they are slaves?

Guess I'm a slave too then, where's my sad piano music??

"I want to take you into that bedroom, lock the door, throw you on the bed, take off your clothes with my teeth and give you a go-round like you've never had."

I HATE YOU LECHEROUS SEX TOURISTS!!!!!!!!!!! :Anger:

No, seriously, can anyone explain to me where the slavery and human trafficking element comes into play in the P4P scene in Pattaya? The girls are there because they chose to, didn't they?

I'm surprised they didn't mention underage prostitution as well, just to spice things up...

I won't bother watching but I already know what it is about. They trot out this horse every few months when the ratings dip. The truth of the matter is no one would work if they didn't have to, and no one likes having a boss or being told what to do but we are all going to do the job that is most profitable for us balanced with our tolerances for the bullshit involved. Bar girls are no different and are NOT SLAVES. Yes they have to work like us but there are other jobs, many other jobs they could do. Furthermore many many girls are sponsored, getting more a month than some of us make yet they continue working. Some girls hate the job and have their reasons for staying anyway but many girls actually enjoy the power of getting money for their pussy and hanging out with friends, drinking dancing. If you like mongering there is no reason to feel guilty as long as you treat the girls respectfully and don't expose them to crazy risks. It's not something society will ever understand but I have it resolved in my own mind.

Tonight I watched a program where bye half a dozen young british workers went to a Thai Chicken factory. They were given a target of cutting up 12 pieces of chickens per minute and were only able to do 6. Thai workers in the factory work for 8 hours a day for 6 days per week for 4 pound a day. (200 baht) (4000 people process 140,000 chickens per day) Standing at a bench without talking.

These people are here by choice but it is economic slavery...Most of the workers are here because they can't make enough working in the rice paddies. (there they earn 100 baht per day.

The chicken that get processed ends up in fast food restaurants all over the world.

It is no wonder that girls graduate to the bars of Pattaya where the working conditions are much better and the wages are higher. Sure they sometimes get involved in doing things that they don't want to do but when given the choice they would rather do that than work in the factories or rice fields.

Who's fault is that? Well Western Consumers are demanding cheaper prices for food and goods so the prices are kept down. This is directly responsible for creating the supply of girls into Pattaya.

The Video takes the simple approach and lays the blame directly on the sex industry but I am sure that they tuck into their cheap Chicken and Chips without taking any responsibility.

On the positive side I think that they have a good idea offering girls an alternative so they are not trapped into staying. None of us really want to have the girls who have no choice but to sell themselves. Of course making a movie about teaching Thai girls english or giving the vocational training is probably not going to get much media coverage. Without the media coverage there is no money...and no money means no program.

This all means that we will need to put up with these types of videos for the good of the girls. We know that we are not exploiting them but we will get blamed by the general public who can't watch more than 30 seconds of news reports or read more than two paragraphs in the newspapers.

How fucking offensive is it to define "Not having a better job offer" as "slavery"? Yes, that's what wars have been fought over... "access to career counselling". Grrr.

Have you read the forum rules?

Economic slavery is prevalent throghout Thailand I am sure. Such as the chicken factory mentioned before.

I would have thought a girl entering the bar scene in Pattaya is actually their escape from economic slavery. Free to work wherever they want, charge what they want, change jobs whenever they want and pick and choose their customers.

I don't think these female academics would have spent too much time getting to know hundreds oh BG's the way us dedicated BM's have anyway and getting a real insight into their lives.

The video is just self promotion for their program anyway probably to shore up funding.

From their website:

What We Are Doing About It

Thailand is a trafficking hub for SE Asia, primarily because of the impoverished bordering countries of Laos, Myanmar (Burma) and Cambodia, because of this, Global Breakthrough is currently focusing on Thailand through two initiatives:

1. Care Centers: These centers focus on both pulling people off the streets as well as making contact before they are pulled into the sex trade. Once contact is established, these centers offer food, shelter, counseling and support as well as practical business skills (through the business center). The location of these centers are very strategic with the first center being launched this fall in Pattaya (the veritable hub of sex trafficking in Thailand) located right next to the major bus station where people from rural towns first make their entrance into the world of sex trafficking.

Wow, so these poor ladies from Issan, when they arrive at the bus stations to work the bars, are being 'trafficked?'

No wonder Puea Thai had the landslide victory. The imbalance of wealth in Thailand is the root-cause of most of the economic problems, as it is in most of Asia. Unfortunately Thaksin is only using the poor for his own self-serving ends, but for the poor

agricultural based majority its better than the warm fuzzy platitudes from the democrats.

No social service support in thailand. No work - no eat.

Anyone that works for a company could be called an economic slave - to the Banks, they are the real bastards.

Spot on we are all economic slaves of some sort. I have my mortgage to pay so I must work,. They have there family to feed so they have to work.

I prostitute my skills for money and often work with much more unsavoury people than you will generally find in Pattaya..Sure I can say no and find other work but the money is good so I don't. There are obvious parallels with the girls from thailand.

I just wish there was someone at my train station to traffic me to Pattaya and give me an alternative lifestyle...I think I would grab the opportunity in a flash. :GoldenSmile1:

Rather strange that that Yankee dyke made no reference to the 'trafficked' bar girls who now live in million baht houses and drive around in new cars thanks to the profession they were 'forced' into. It's also curious that the film only selected girls whose faces displayed bored and thoughtful expressions leading the viewer to conclude that they were leading a miserable existence. The happiest, jolliest people I've ever seen in my life are Pattaya's bargirls.

Started rolling my eyes as soon as I heard the music. Only line that made sense was, "Behind each face sitting on a barstool in Pattaya is a story that lies untold." Well, that much is true. Lots of stories in that town. I'll freely admit that if someone came out of nowhere and handed every BG in Pattaya 10 million baht, the place would be a ghost town tomorrow. Just a bunch of farangs standing around staring at each other. I'm also not going to pretend that the industry doesn't destroy lives. It does, on both sides. But the simple fact of the matter is that the girls (at least in the farang-oriented side of the business) made a conscious decision to take on the job. Like my drill sergeants used to say, "We don't have a draft anymore, each and every one of you raised your hands at some point and said with no coercion, 'Yes, I want to do this." Having said that I am sure there are girls who want to get out of the business but that should be handled more like a job-placement program than a moral crusade.

Met a guy in basic from a small town in the South. He had four kids, only jobs he could get with his education were minimum wage jobs stocking shelves and stuff like that. Military was the best thing that happened to him. Gave him the means to support his family. I think of the girls as a lot like soldiers in a way... they volunteer to do a job that pays well, but can be difficult and dangerous and damage you for life, physically or psychologically. Only two major differences are that bargirls can quit, and soldiers can't, but then again, do 20 years in the military and you get a pension, not the case for a bargirl. If I were to make a documentary about bargirls, it would probably be about how bargirls who are in the industry long enough deserve some sort of pension... seeing as they spent their life in an occupation which gives them no marketable skills for after they leave it. That would be my charity, "Pensions for retired bargirls".

And don't give me that nonsense about how they should have saved the money they made when they were working, bargirls are the only people I know who are worse at money management than soldiers! :)

Would really like to know how much these charity ladies are making and who is paying her and her cronies bills while they do this counciling and rehab of BG's.

Am ready to take a bet this stuck up person is on her charities expense sheet and earns a top salary as a specialist, any takers ? or more knowledgeable person, please enlighten me.

Also she can educate herself with a fact finding mission to these bars and evaluate for herself if they are slaves.

She can try to work a day as a BG.

Also there are plenty other jobs which some girls do and and also moonlight.

Some aresucessful in seeking farang sponser.

I am sure many others like me would have given some BG an opportunity if they only behaved decently.

Seen many guys having kids and living a different life with ex BG'S.

Typical, farrang women making money out of these poor souls, I wonder how much they got paid for doing this programme, or did they do it for free, derrr, very much doubt it, so come on you women lets see you reply to this one, I would really really love to hear from you, the presenters, cameramen, producers, tv network, and all the other that got paid for making this, did they all pay their own travel expenses, hotels, food, drink and short times.

Also would like to point out you are not allowed to film in go go's why do these holier than thow cunts keep doing this why dont they take a broader view of what the real problems are in the world.

No money no honey, Bollocks I say no honey no money

Bar money is easy money that's why as the film put it "there an estimated 4000 women working on one street alone"

If it was such a shit job why would there be so many willing to do it? The definition of slave is a follows:

1: a person who is the property of and wholly subject to another; a bond servant.

Slaves don't get paid by definition most of these girls support a family back home, How many western

women can say they earn enough money to support there parents as well as themselves? Also slaves

by definition don't have choices don't see that much in evidence in Pattaya.

This is all about some pathetic activist wanting a trip to Thailand so she can try and quantify her

pathetic existence, she probably wishes she could find someone that would pay her for sex like that would

ever happen!!!! and did you see the Thai girls in the film, way past retirement age for working in the bars

so they have had all they can get out of the sex industry and then got some easy money for appearing in this

so called documentary. What a load of shite
