In answer to the perennial Trivial Pursuit question in Pattaya pubs, there are now 150 McDonald’s outlets in Thailand compared with 93 units five years ago, according to Hester Chew, McThai’s chairman. Plans call for the opening of an additional 70 to 100 units over the next year.

 

 

 

 

“We are trying to push our McDonald’s stores from being traditional quick-serving restaurants into lifestyle outlets,” Chew said, noting that outlets will incorporate the Millennium concept with new lighting and décor to create a cozier atmosphere designed to lengthen customer stays and boost their bins. Despite rising food prices in Thailand, McDonald’s intends to maintain current levels through efficiency savings.

Chew called on the Thai government to promote peace in the country and to drive the economy, both of which would attract foreign investment and create jobs.

The problem has already started. Kids that would normally eat healthy meals are being 'treated' to fast-food garbage by parents. I Bangkok, Pattaya, etc. you can see the percentage of fat kids is already on the rise. Not a good trend in a country that has high diabetes levels to contend with as well.

Thankfully there aren't many in Isaan villages, although there is a KFC in Buriram and Surin. So, we can still keep getting slim girls, but no guarantee after they get to Pattaya...

McDonalds - what a joke. Seriously unhealthy quick food. Very un-Thai and frankly objectionable in a country that has fantastic cuisine. Not many Thai participants in the opening posting - wonder why !! Thanks for posting this warning.
