A trip to the Khon Kaen Province

Isaaaan

 

I thought i would finally broaden my horizons this trip and decided to take a trip to Isaan. Albeit for only 3 days. Not really the usually scenario of a guy going up there to see his TG, i just wanted to sample something different. I was so glad i did...

 

I went to the Khoen Kaen district as this is where my mate known as the Scottish cnut is based. First night we stayed in Khon Kaen City. I was firstly suprised on how developed the place is. I don't know why but i was expecting a ram shackle little town, i was very wrong. It's an up to date place with most amenities you could wish for. Obvious things to note were that there were not very many farangs around at all, maybe a few drunk school teachers and retired expats. Also that the level of English was dramatically lower than places i usually visit..

 

Also it was funny to me that when ordering a drink or when we bought a few items in the local Central, the staff were almost fighting over who would serve us, like it was a prize to serve the farang.

It looked like it was a very nice hotel once, but was definitely in need of makeover. It was clean and comfortable though, so fine for one night..

 

We hit a few bars near the hotel, these were dead in the day, but were far busier at night with a scattering of girls to have a chat and a flirt with. I befriended one girl who i would have taken in an instance. She was actually from Hat Yai but had move to KK due to her day job. I was talking to her and her friend and asked her what she was doing later, she replied she was going home to her Thai boyfriend, to which she got a bollocking from her friend for not lieing to the farang and being such a novice........5555

 

We then moved onto a bar which was only occupied by Thai's. There was a band playing and the place was packed. We sat down and ordered a tower of chang. At this point the band stopped playing mid song and the lead singer announced to the bar that two farangs had arrived. Nearly everyone looked over , waved, smiled and i think there was even a few cheers.....!!!!

We got chatting to the waitress and she was only too pleased to help us polish off the beer. I bet she had a bad head in the morning......

 

 

Rad Club

 

Later we moved onto Rad Club. This place has 3 rooms. A coyote bar, a Karaoke bar and a Nightclubby section. We started in the coyote bar and to start with it was a little disappointing. Again we were the only farangs in the place. The girls were mediocre, but seemed to act like they were super models. The shows were boring and there was not any interaction to be seen. No beer was served, vodka was 1600 baht a bottle, so i was on the Black Label......

 

After about 30 mins this all changed when my acccomplice went to the toilet. He came back with a coyote in tow. She sat down and within about 2 mins was soon relieved of her bikini and some fairly unsavoury action ensued. Then something quite funny happened; all of the Thai guys around us started applauding and high fiving each other ! I don't think they had seen anything quite like this before i couldn't believe their eyes. They were all shaking our hands on our way out, seems we were their new heroes............5555

 

We finished off the bottle in the nightclub section. Again we were the only farangs in the place. The standard of the women in this place was excellent. 8's and 9's everywhere, plus all dressed in quite a classy manner compared to the slutty look you would find in the clubs of Patts and Patong.

We got a bit of attention from the birds, but due to the language barrier i was getting nowhere fast. I then knew it was time to move on when the Scottish Cnut started knocking over tables, it could get expensive very fast with bottles of spirits being knocked to the floor left right and centre.......

 

We ended up in a Karaoke bar at around 3am. The deal was you could have a private room, and a girl would accompany you for an hour for 200 baht, this is just to act as a hostess and sing songs etc..

The mamasan lined the girls up in front of us and asked us to choose who we wanted. They were seriously good looking girls, so much so that i liked them all, so we took 6 up to the room with us. We had a great hours fun, with the booze flowing, the Isaan songs playing and all the girls singing and dancing. It was magic...

 

I really liked the look of one girl, she was actually the hottest girl i clapped eyes on all trip, simply stunning. I had her sat on my knee and discreetly enquired about her availability that night. She said she wasn't allowed to leave until closing, but she would meet me at my hotel when she finished work, which was at 5am. I gave her my number and we left.

I got back to the hotel around 4:30, and waited for her call, but it never came so i went to sleep, pissed as a fart. I was awoken some time later by my phone ringing, at what turned out to be 08:00. But i wasn't with it at all, i was still pissed and didn't know what was going on, if i was dreaming or not. I answered and it was the girl, she asked if she could come to the hotel. For some reason that i still do not understand to this day, i simply said " no, i am asleep " and put the phone down. I can not tell you how much i was kicking myself the next day once i realised what i had done............

 

I would thoroughly recommend Khon Kaen City to anyone looking for somewhere different to visit in Los. I know i will be back...

Chum Pae

 

 

The next 2 nights were spent visiting my mates house in Phu Pha Man near to Chum Pae. Although i stayed at a nice resort for 450 baht a night just up the road called Thai Garden.

 

Phu Pha Man is fairly remote, about a 30 mins drive from Chum Pae which is quite a big town. It is typical rice farmer territory, with mostly very poor housing, apart from the scattering of houses built by the returning bar girls rich farang boyfriends...

 

First thing i noticed was the bugs. Bugs, bugs and more fcking bugs. You just can't get away from them. In fact the floor at the local 7/11 was absolutely covered in bugs. I was actually very suprised that i didn't get bitten more, they probably weren't accustomed to the non-isaan taste !

 

Secondly the friendliness of the people around there. My mate doesn't have any near neighbours as such, but when just standing by his gate for a while, every person who drove past waived or smiled, and seemed interested in the new farang in town...

 

We went shopping at Chum Pae market, ribs, prawns, squid, sausages and a load of other stuff were very cheaply purchased. We then had a couple of very nice Bbq's courtesy of my mates Mrs. Her home made chips also were exceptional.....

Tawang Daeng

 

That night we along with my mates Mrs went to the Tawang Daeng (sp) in Chum Pae. This is an extremely large music hall, with extensive seating in front of a large stage. There was a excellent live band playing all the popular Isaan songs, the lead singer was a ladyboy who would walk the X-factor/American Idol without a doubt, he/she had an amazing voice. Stickman actually described his visit to a Bkk Tawang Daeng in his column a couple of weeks back..

We were again the only 2 farangs there. The place was quite busy and the locals were typically going crazy, dancing like lunatics in Isaan fashion. We sat at a table quite near the front and were enjoying another beer tower.

 

On a table a couple nearer the stage to ours was two Thai couples, who looked to be in their early twenties. They were sharing a bottle of whiskey. After a short time one of the girls got up and walked past our table, as she did so she gestured at me to follow. I just ignored it as a little joke, but then when as she returned to her table, she walked by me and gave my back a squeeze. She then sat down at her table. I then looked over and she smiled at me, so i did the natural thing and smiled back. With this she raced over and jumped on my knee, started grinding herself on me in time to the music, and then started to kiss me..............

 

I was half in a state of shock, i did not expect this at all, and more importantly was extremely mindful of the Thai guys whom she had been sat with and was half expecting a bottle over the head. It seemed my mates Mrs had the same fears, and she angrily asked the girl what the hell she was doing and to go back to her boyfriend. With this the girl advised her that the guy was not her boyfriend, they were just on their first date !!! I know i would be far from happy if i was on a first date with a girl, and she fcked me off as soon as she saw a supposedly better option.....

 

Anyway, the girl stayed with me, and the two Thai guys stormed out, leaving her friend sat alone. I invited her over to join aswell and a fun and boozy night was had by all. I suppose i should have felt bad about ruining the poor guys date, but i was on my hols, and wasn't gonna look a gift horse in the mouth......

So that was my 3 day trip to Isaan. I really did love it up there and can't wait to get back. Cheap as chips also, think i only spent about 5k baht in the 3 days including accomodation. Overall a great success, and a little hottie thrown for good measure.....

Khon Kaen is nice and a good hotel which is small and new and owned by a Farang is the KHON KAEN ORCHID

They also drive you around or rent you a motorbike

also they will pick you up at airport or bus station etc.

kHON kaen has a lot more going on than people think you just need to lok a bit harder allthough daytime is quiet. Looks like what I call the Jonnie walker bar behind the soffitel was you first point of call. Its named something else but has an american wetern theme and is always a good night and when they put the laos music on and all those young girls start dancing and shaking their bums. Whoopee.

IMO the bar scene in Khon Kaen has improved over the last year or so mostly centered around the Pullman hotel. The Khon Kaen Orchid is a great hotel (650bht a night)probably the best value hotel in the city, only minus is its a long walk to the center but you can hire 1 of their Scooters or take a Tuk-Tuk also KK now has very cheap taxi meters. On your own there, suggest you hook up with someone with local knowledge not hard to do as KK has one of the largest Universities in Thailand.

Just a warning to anyone who doesn't like loud noises. Some of those Issan music clubs can be deafening loud. I have never been able to sit in one for more than 20 minutes without needing to leave to preserve my hearing. That said KK is a cool city.

i stayed in khon kean for 3 night in june cannot remember the hotel name but was right in the centre and about 1600bart a night if i remember correctly, nearest bar to hotel was the sports bar and also went to the same bar with tgf where the band played and same thing happend to us when the band saw me.

 

also stayed in chumphea in the major grand hotel and went to the same music venue with the ladyboy singer had a great night there,

was with tgf and 3 of her friends, going back in november but this time i will bring a friend along with me after a few days in patts

They will also collect you from the bus station or airport.

I am in Khon Khan now and have to agree, this is a nice little place, surprised me as I read many negative comments about the lack of quality girls and bars around here. Have to say the quality per capita in the clubs is just through the roof, there is a bar called "My Bar" just between Kosa and Pullman hotels, has free pool and plenty of girls, with good music, but the best thing is there are definitely 3 very pretty girls here, pretty high percentage of the working staff, chances to get one of them if you are a decent bloke as most customers are very old ex pats. The problem is one is a PR girl, so will only go if she really likes you, it is not her job as such, the other has a farang bf looking after her and another farang in KK looking after aswell, so she will only go if she really wants to, and the other is the beer promotion girl paid by the beer company not the bar, so she also has very rich bf and a hard score.

 

The Gogo in Rad bar I thought had some very nice girls, definitely aimed at the Thai men , I don't think i saw one dark skinned girl dancing there at all, the look i like also, and the nightclubs are full of stunners. I definitely want to come back here, in fact even though the bar scene is so small, the few bars that have the hot girls really excede expectation and i am happy to take my chances in them.

 

It makes it far better that I can stay in the centre of the action at the Pullman(due to work), seems this town is being developed around that hotel. I didn't bring my good phone to take pics, pity.

Depends what you like doing IMO there is not a great deal to do in the daytime in KK, it has a new Central Plaza & other shopping areas, however if you hire a car/bike there are places of interest to visit & you can experience rural Thailand. If you hook up with one of the girls she is likely to come from that area & will be able to show you around. Cant think of places not to go around KK. Enjoy your trip.
