Skype SMS question/problem

Hello all,

Just have a quick question/problem. I was wondering if any of you all that SMS from skype to Thai mobile phone are having any issues with the person in TL not receiving the SMS? I have opened a ticket with Skype Customer Support and well...they are just about useless.

I just recently moved from Germany to Okinawa, Japan. And for about a month when I got here all was working well (April to May) at around the beginning of May, my SMS to Thailand from Skype wont go through, even though it says "delivered". I have SMS'ed several Thai friends and they don't get the messages. I can message my buddies back in Germany with no issue though.

Just wondering if anyone else is having issue with Skype SMS to TL...Thanks

I had a suspicion today that at least one of my sms to a number of folk in Thailand via skype never got through. But put it down to the fact that I was holding 3 or 4 different sms conversations at more or less the same time

But...what do I know?

I have unlimited SMS international and domestic with my cell plan. Skype to me were kind of expensive vs. a cell phone. Can't you get a cell plan with good service and a low unit price per message? I am only paying $30 a month which gives me the cell calls, too. And Canada is renowned for shit cell rates.

I have to agree that Skype customer services are vague (at best) when giving advice on problems. Despite stating that I use the iPhone app every time I contact them, they give advice only applicable to PC users. Fortunately, the problems usually sort themselves out within a couple of days. I actually use a cheap international SIM for SMS to Thailand and stick to calls only on Skype.

As for phoning to a Thai mobile from your own mobile as one BM suggested ? I can't imagine this ever being cost-effective. Skype gives me unlimited calls to Thai landlines an mobiles for £2.95 a month.

Well I got a cell phone through "AU" here in Okinawa. I am lead to believe that here in Japan they don't have SMS on their mobile phone networks, the 3 major companies are AU, Softbank, and Docomo. Neither of the cell networks talk to each other via text. AU phones can't SMS at all, only "C-mail" to other AU phones.

You would think that Japan being as "technical" as they are would solve this problem.

I have a friend that has a Docomo phone and he can only SMS to other Docomo phones. Which is funny, when I had my T-mobile phone from Germany, I could send him SMS to his phone, but he couldn't reply back.

After speaking with the different carriers on the island, seems that the Japanese use email on there phones for primary "texting" each phone if capible can receive emails by using the phone number and @whatevercarrier.com.

And my TGF doesn't have a smart phone yet.

Japanese mobile phone companies really blow.

Which all goes back to the beginning. When I fist arrived here in Japan (April), I could SMS her through Skype. It wasn't till about May when she stopped receiving them. I spoke with my local internets provider (NTT) and they are not blocking skype.

I dunno, I was wondering if someone could do a test for me.

SMS through skype one of your friends in Thailand and see if they get it.

I can SMS my friend in Belgium from Japan, so I kind of figure its not Skype.

Thanks for the help.
