Sara uhh-ahh เอือ

This is giving me no end of problems. Got ง and ต to a sort of acceptable level, but this vowel really is giving me problems.

Listening to recordings I can see that I am somehow putting a short ว in there and not making it nasal enough.

I hope no one was eves dropping on my lesson this morning when my teacher and I were saying uhh-ahh to each other repeatedly...

But...what do I know?

I widen my mouth and show my bottom teeth when pronouncing the first part of this dipthong. I also bring the sound out from my throat. Not sure if this helps as is difficult to explain. If you have a teacher, he'she should really be able to help you get it right

You would have to push your lips forward to make this sound.

Do not move your lips at all while speaking this

Imagine that you're walking barefoot and step in a fresh pile of dog shit. What sound will you make?

It might be different in the UK, but if you ask an American the answer will usually be pretty close to the pronunciation of sara เอือ

Lovely imagery. My problem was the transition between the two components of the sound. OK not that good with the nasal aspect, but having the tendency to add in a very short 'w' at the transition point making it a sort of oo(w)a. Grief, isn't it hard describing sound with letters. I have been hunting fr a way to stop myself doing that. I think the key is in consciously holding the lips back, so have spent 2 days walking round the house constantly saying it then checking back to the recordings my teacher sent. My dogs keep looking up and giving me the weirdest of looks...
