What an euqipment!

Congratulations. From your homepage I knew you'd have something better, but that blows me away, man!

Mine looks like a baby compared to your's:

Xeon

10GB RAM

500GB system drive

external 4TB RAID

24" wide 1920x1200

19" 4:3 1600x1200

Some cheap ATI card (I'm no gamer)

10 year old Pentium III

768MB RAM

20GB system

2x500GB mirrored

running as web+mail+comm - server

Cheers,

Bob

Edit

O yeah. I use my iPhone 4 when on the road, and my 3GS when in Patts.

Ipad is next though. Sooo much bigger!

You're not as dumb as you think you are.

There is no way to upload pictures from mobile safari - yet, maybe in iOS 5 although they didnt say a thing about that in last weeks keynote to the WWDC.

And I dont know any other brower app that does. They all seem to use the safari engine.

This is the only thing I miss in iOS.

Mine's 350 cm ..................................... but it isn't full.

Serious Q - especially for those in Thailand where power cuts are quite common - do you have battery back-up?

I realise it wouldn't last very long with those set-ups, but I've been told even a cheap one is a good idea just to give you time to power everything down properly?

I brought one in the office for around 6000 baht and it lasts 30 minutes. I have never got one at home as I very rarely get a power cut. I only remember 1 in the last year.

It would be a good idea to get one for this computer at home, but its another thing that can go wrong, I might need two!

I might get a cheap one for the internet gear, so I can continue using laptops etc.

Lets see a picture of your computer, I know you've been doing some work on it!

LOL - I cleaned out the kitchen and the closet but I haven't done the office yet - it's a tip - maybe tomorrow.

It was the satellite geek who came and got me hooked up to AstroBeyond (from Malaysia).

He lectured me about the damage power cuts do to all this sort of gear - does it fuck the soldered connections or somat?.

He said I should just get a cheap one about 1900 Baht - not to work with, although it would keep my battery-less laptop and router going perhaps, but mainly to give me time to power everything down properly.

At the last place and this, I'd guess I average 2+ power cuts a month.

I have two surge protectors, they were 1500 baht each. I should probably get a battery too, due to the expense of the computer. I never leave it running over night or when I am out. I also have two chemical fire extinguisher on hand. I check the water pump regulary and I have software which monitors the processors temperature, and it shuts down the computer way before the recommended max temperature. The computer runs at around 35c. I do my best to look after it and the ssd drive. I was thinking of getting an enterprize drive, but they are 50,000 baht each, (70k in Thailand) double the cost of my ssd drive.

After working with computers for so many years I prefer to keep it simple at home now. I just use a laptop for the net and a 360 for gaming.

Well well. Maybe mainframes took the fun away.

I had my first assembler training in '73 and still cant get enough - never touched a mainframe except from punching cards at the university :)

In 1973 we programmed on COBOL, Assembler and Job Control sheets which were punched on punch cards, tape or floppies and processed in “closed shop” on the mainframe(s).

Later we got terminals to do the same job “on line” and later still PCs to emulate terminals.

It was “the real thing”, nothing like playing on PCs.
