The Haven Soi 13 review, May 2011

Recommended Posts

This is what I remember of the hotel I stayed in for three weeks in May 2011.

The Haven hotel

http://www.thehaven-hotel.com/

Excellent location

  • central to everything in Pattaya.
  • 100m to grab a quick girl off BR.
(And go to her 100bht ST room in Soi 13/1)
  • Lek hotel very near for breakfast buffet 150bht
If you get up before 13:00 that is.
(I managed only 3 times in 3 weeks)
  • K-Bank is just across 2nd Road, and next door is
    7/11,
    best pharmacy,
    Tim's bar.

The hotel

  • Not the newest, but acceptable and clean. (see pictures on their web site)
  • They seem to repair things quite fast (saw them at work every other day on small inadequacies)
  • Nice small pool
    Rarely seen somebody use it
Very much fun to play with the lady at 4am between shags
  • No separate entrance, but you can go around the restaurant
  • Space for your bike (or even you ladies' cars)
  • Night "guard" (sleeping most of the time, but he will take your lady's ID, if you wake him)
  • Friendly staff (maybe because I tipped the room maids 20 baht the first day)
  • Very helpful (one of the ladies even told my girls how much a butterfly I am  )
  • No joiner fee
  • Good free WiFi (3 separate routers - you get a good connection wherever you are)
  • I saw lots of golf clubs stowed in a corner, but never anyone wearing one around.

The rooms

1000bht low season -20% for 21 days (see web site)

They have at least two different room sizes.

I got a smaller one first (pre-booked 3 nights), then changed to a big one when I told them I was going to stay for 21 nights.

No difference except size, fan and number of tables.

  • 5m x 6m (my guess)
  • aircon (not turned off while you're away)
  • fan
  • king size bed
  • three tables
  • two chairs
  • big flat screen tv
  • DVD player
  • sturdy safe with a heavy removeable lock (door didnt budge when locked)
    big enough for notebook
    don't loose the key!
  • smoking in room accepted
  • You should close the curtain (windows become sort of transparent at night when lights are on)
  • Decent bath room (soap only)
  • Was calm (no kids at all) until 3 arab guys sharing a room checked in next door.
  • Clean (fresh bedding and towels every day)
  • Daily laundry returned in the afternoon (just dropped it in the basket under the table)

The restaurant

  • good value (half the price I paid at MaMaison)
  • excellent food (I like thai, and they serve anything you order)
  • very good breakfast
  • and if you like that:
    - low fat gelato
    - european style sweets

Nope.

Would have looked 100% like the ones on their website.

and how many free nights did you get for your

I really enjoyed my stay at the Haven and I think the location is perfect. I had a very 'out of the way' upstairs loom that was very quiet but I probably wouldn't have liked the looms overlooking the pool (too noisy with kids during the morning/afternoon).

My Pattaya budget is perfectly adequate as long as I don't spend any of it

Thank you for your report. It sounds like they have spruced up the rooms a bit recently. The Location is excellent, I often ate breakfast there when I stayed at Sandy Spring.

Sorry, my native language is german:

What's a "fluff piece"?

To answer your question:

Whatever fluff is, I didnt get any free nights, just the discount for staying longer.

Thanks for this report.

I have not heard of this place at all so it's good to find out about alternative places to stay.

Having discovered the 13's (sois) on my last trip I think it would be a great location to stay.

I already have my rooms booked for my next trip but may have to go in and check it out on my travels.

Was there a balcony in room?

No, it was on the 1st floor, not overviewing the pool.

But i left out minibar - will edit my OP.

I have stayed here on 3 different occasions in the last few months. Good value, and easy to find when you are arriving by taxi from Bangkok, or elsewhere. If you are arriving at 1AM, as I usually am, the night watchman is always out in the front area of the hotel, and he will find your booking, then give you your key.

Easy walk up to "The Avenue" if you need to go to Starbucks, Au Bon Pain. But, the food is actually pretty good here. Good wifi, and nice pool. When leaving for Bangkok, I definitely would recommend walking up to the small kiosk just before you get to 2nd Road. Give them an hour or more notice, if possible. The guy (50 to 55 years old) that is heavily tattooed, is very nice guy, good attitude, and speaks very good English.

  • 2 months later...

Rooms look nice since the remodel. I really like that location, lots of activity and close to everything. I'm trying to book a room for 7 nights in November. If all goes well, I'll follow-up with a report while I'm there.

Cheers
