german pork knuckle

Recommended Posts

Tobi told me on the phone that German Garden was to close by the end of May.

This is very sad, because it was to my knowledge the only place to offer a genuine grilled pork knuckle, not a fried one (=disgusting).

Are there any other places in Pattaya offering a genuine grilled pork knuckle?

I would like to know too if there are places left that offer genuine GRILLED pork knuckles.

I have seen Schweinshaxe on several menus, such as at Thai-Europe Restaurant on Soi BJ (Bierkutsche’s successor), but I have never trusted it.

Hello guys,

I been to pattaya for quite a no. of times but the only time i found one is in Aloha restaurant on second road but the meat was way too dry and tough. Anyone got any idea where to find a gd one? I am really a big fan of it. Appreciate if anyone can provide any kind of info. Cheers! :001_Thank_You5:

In Canada, the big thing now is Moose Knuckle.

Never my first choice if Toe is on the munue at the same price.

If “Beerfest” on Second Road is German, I’m Chinese.

Your picture shows clearly how it should NOT be: notched and deep fried.

Pork knuckles sound likes a euphemism for masturbation!   :WhoSaw1:

Last week I have been eating at the German Restaurant Taverne (“Deutsches Restaurant”, “Bürgerliche Küche”) on the corner of Naklua Road and Soi 18/1.
At first sight it looked good and the portions were (too) big, but the quality of the food was very poor.
The business was run by a Thai female, perhaps a widow of a German.
There were several Thai families and a very noisy, cigarette-smoking Russian.
Some prices:

Linsensuppe 135 baht,
Kaßler 230 baht,
Sauerbraten 250 baht,
Heineken 70 baht,

Warsteiner 120 baht,
toilet (for non-customers) 50 baht.
On a lighter note, the bill mentioned “Thank you for coming.”

Last week the German restaurant Bei Anton on Naklua Road opposite Soi 18 was closed.
So, I tried
Bei Gerhard instead on Naklua Road Soi 31 at the left-hand side near the end of the soi.
They happen to have two cheap daily specials.
The soup of the daily special (
Kraftbrühe mit Flädle) was excellent.
The
Sauerbraten came in a very big portion with a lot of Spätzle but, although it was not as bad as the one at Taverne on the corner of Naklua Road and Soi 18/1, it contained too much mustard and did not compare to the Sauerbraten at Bier Stüble on Soi 7.
Also at the defunct Thai-Europe Restaurant on Soi BJ the
Sauerbraten was even better.
There were several farang customers, at least some of them speaking German.
At a long table a farang had apparently invited his extended Thai in-law family.
Some prices:
soup of the daily specials (taken separately) 50 baht,

Flädlesuppe (normal à la carte price) 110 baht,
Sauerbraten 280 baht,
Heineken 80 baht,

Warsteiner 130 baht.

The “German” restaurant Beerfest on Second Road more or less opposite Soi 6, popular with Thais and Russians, has closed for several weeks already.

Last night I visited Deutsches Haus on Beach Road near Soi 4.
On their menu I saw
Schweinshaxe “Munich style” and Eisbein “Berlin style”, both at 350 baht.
Their pea soup at 180 baht tasted as if it was made from powder.
Their
Schweinshaxe was deep fried instead of slowly roasted, rock hard and not at all edible.
DISGUSTING.
I appeared to be their only farang customer.
A PLACE TO AVOID.

In my experience, don't bother with German food if the place is not run by a German who is physically there.

Then you can directly ask him about the knuckle being properly spitroasted or deep fried.

Thai staff doesn't understand the difference.

At Alt Heidelberg also on Beach Road, but near Walking Street, there is a German “physically there”, but the food is shit.

Last week before I visited Deutsches Haus on Beach Road, I walked through Soi 4.

I didn’t see a German restaurant there.

I didn't want to say that if a German is there, the food is guaranteed to be good, I wanted to say that if no German is present it will probably be bad...

In my opinion, the far best one is served at Borussia Park.

Only Fridays 7 pm.

24h pre-order required, [email protected]

Big portion that I'm not able to finish.

285 Baht, if I recall it correct.

Where is Borussia Park ?

Although posting the address and location would indeed have been helpful in Sucram's post, I really suggest you try to just google the answer. easy to find:

Klein Heidelberg on Naklua Road Soi 18 does have Schweinshaxe, but they describe it as “crispy/knusprig”.

Manarak,

Yes, you are right. I just didn't want to catch the smell of advertisement for a place that I'm not related to. Sorry for that.

However, I can recommend this place, even if it's far away in the North, on the Baht Bus route though.

My favorite there is the roasted duck on Sundays. The same conditions of booking apply.

I tried Borussia Park today. Very nice.

I had the currywurst Saturday special 129 baht. Nice sausage, good potato salad. I asked for the mixed salad instead of coleslaw and got literally one small leaf of lettuce and once slice of tomato. Hilarious. But the potato salad was generous, the sausage was large and tasty and the sauce was very nice. I had water with it at 30 baht for a total of 159 baht. I was pretty stuffed.

My friend got the #5 breakfast for 145 baht, two sausages, hash browns and two egss--well cooked, included a slice of very nice rye type bread with butter and jam, and he had two cups of fresh-brewed coffee included in the price. Not sure if they made a mistake on not charging for the second coffee or not, but if that's the deal it's an *excellent* value. Edit: Just read on the site two cups is the deal. Nice. Plus brekkie is available 9 am to 5 pm.

I'd like to try their barbecue sometime but I'm a bit confused. It says on the menu on the website 'no take away offer.' Does that mean you must dine in?

Also, it says pork knuckle is the Friday special--does that mean you must order Thursday and can only eat on Friday???? Or Friday you can come and eat without ordering and other days you must pre-order?

this is all very good news, I'll visit on a Friday after ordering a knuckle G'rillt' Schwiins'hox the day before.
