My lady buys them at Food Land and cooks them very well after I taught her, :Chokdee: restaurants sometimes keep them around too long after cooking.

Wine improves with age. The older I get the better I like it.

You only as old as the girl you feel.

In Pattaya, your her customer not her boyfriend.

ya thats exactly the case at aloha, kept too long after cooking, making the meat dry and tough! well i cant teach "my lady" to cook it, otherwise i'll probably have to teach 7 different ladys how to cook in a week! :Laugh1:

'good...pork knuckle' is an oxymoron.

Maybe you have never tried a good one then? :Dunno:

How do they prepare it in the South besides pickling?

The Germans do some of the best pork knuckle with crispy skin and the Chinese do some amazing things with simmered and stewed pork knuckle.

Klein Heidelberg restaurant Soi 18 off Naklua road serves "shwain knasse", as well as many other German places in the area..

I used to like pork knuckle chinese style in Nam Sing restaurant, but they removed it from the menue long time ago.

  • 3 years later...

As Bier Stüble on Soi 7 is closed for summer holiday (mid-May to mid-September) I decided to give Alt Heidelberg on Beach Road, not far from Walking Street, a try.
When I arrived I was the only customer inside.
The owner was watching German television on a small screen next to the bar.
The interior looks as if it has remained the same for at least thirty years.
The waitress gave me a Russian menu and I had to insist to get a German one.
I ordered a
Spargelsuppe (asparagus soup) at 125 baht and a Schweinshaxe at 395 baht.
The soup contained short pieces of very thick white asparagus (perhaps preserved ones) that tasted like straw.
As mentioned in the English translation (“deep-fried pork knuckle”) the
Schweinshaxe was indeed deep-fried instead of roasted, which was disgusting.
(I thought the English translation was wrong when I read it.)
In Germany I have eaten several times
Schweinshaxe, which was always roasted, not deep-fried.
I have also eaten
Eisbein, which is the same part of the pig, but boiled with spices instead of roasted.
I have always been wary of restaurants in Pattaya promoting themselves with signs in Russian.
Those signs seem to scare westerners off and it is very doubtful if they will attract many Russians, if any.
I fear that signs in Russian are part of a strategy of desperate owners who know their quality is too poor to attract western patrons.

There is (or used to be) a small but good french restaurant that serves a great eisbein in Jomtien soi 4. Think it has to be ordered for 2 people.

Think the owner is from the Elzas.

But not sure.

Went there, want eat and look F1, same waitress told me they not have sport channels at the moment.

German Garden has closed.

Klein Heidelberg changed the manager, last year. The pork knuckle there is somehow okay. KH is more recommended for 'Eisbein' (boiled pork knuckle), what I personally don't like at all.

Berliner Bistro is okay for pork knuckle, much better than KH, but not outstanding.

A very decent pork knuckle is offered by Borussia Park AKA "Naklua Sauna", Wednesdays 7 pm only. A huge portion, what I never manage to finish alone.

Booking, one day in advance, is required. [email protected]

The US is not Germany.

Has German Garden on Naklua Road Soi 12, on the way to The Sanctuary of Truth, closed ?

I seldom venture in Naklua, but I have been there last year and it was very quiet.

If I remember well they did Schweinshaxe once a week and you had to book by phone one day in advance.

Tobi told me on the phone that German Garden was to close by the end of May.

This is very sad, because it was to my knowledge the only place to offer a genuine grilled pork knuckle, not a fried one (=disgusting).

Are there any other places in Pattaya offering a genuine grilled pork knuckle?
