spent a fair bit of time on samui running a bar at lamai beach afew years ago.

its a potentially very dangerous place if you get on the wrong side of the locals.

lots of guns down there and killings are fairly common.

the whole island is completely stuffed now IMHO.

Dont the thai authorities understand that covering these things up will discourage tourism more than saying yes there was a murder and we are investigating

Nah it doesn't discourage tourism, only the resident expats get concerned about these things, if you tell your average tourists about all these things that go on they won't accept it, they say you have a bad attitude, you're at fault, if the guy was actually murdered then he must have deserved it, probably disrespectful to the Thais. Beats me how Thailand gets away with all this shit year in and year out. Does anybody have any idea how many foreigners are murdered or killed in suspicious ways each year in Thailand? Got to be a staggering number. Seems to me nobody gives a shit.
