Visa Requirements

Hi,

I will be in Pattaya for 3 months this winter. Should I get a double entry visa of 60 days each, or just get a single entry visa and ask for an extension while there?

Is it also possible to not get any Visa and do a border run every 29 days?

Any other suggestions would also be appreciated.

I would get a double entry. Usually not much more than a single depending on where your coming from. Plus if you decide you want to stay a little longer you don't have to worry about it. FYI it costs 1900B for the 30day ext.

If you do a border run by land they will only grant you 14 days upon re-entry. You could fly and get another 30 days but that would be quite an added expense.

Hope this helps :)

I would play it safe and get the double entry tourist visa.

Doing a border run to a land crossing will only get you 15 days each time. There is also some talk of a limit on the number of times you can do this.

Thank you as well. The only thing I do not understand about double entry visa is when to apply? As the second visa might expire if I do not apply for it close to my journey. Which of course I do not wish to do.

a 60 day tourist visa is valid for 6 mnths get a double or triple entry visa from thai embassy, when you enter thailand they will stamp your passport with a 60 day stay on day 58 /59 do a border run you will get another 60 days stamp on entry, just make sure that when you enter thailand that the immigration stamps you for a 60 day stay as sometimes they make mistakes and this is your problem not theres if they stamp the wrong dates.

Great, thank you very much. I thought I had read it was 90 days not 6 months. Good to know.

Very good point Leeds. This has actually happened to me TWICE. The first time they wrongly stamp me with the visa-excempt 30 days, and it had expired when I caught the error. I didn't know what to do so I went to my embassy. Luckily they sorted it out for me and I went back to Suvarnabhumi for the correction. It was quite the hassle. Subsequent entries I double check the stamp and caught it immediately the 2nd time around. Now I make it a habit to politely point out the Visa type to the immigration officers.

Wrong information here. After 60 days you need to go to immigration and get a 30 day extension, then at the end of those 30 days you need to do a visa run which activates the second 60 days.In total you should get 180 days ( 6 months ).

Me no understand.

If he's only thinking 90 days total, why bother with the extension?

Why not just do the border run to activate the second 60 days?

I don't think he's trying for the 180 day option, albeit he could I know.

Edit - Are we getting mixed up over the Q of length of time the Visa is valid for (how long he has to activate/use it) as opposed to the period of stay allowed?

Given that a Visa runs costs the same or rather a bit more than the 30 day extension he can get at Immigration, and is certainly no fun filled day, I strongly suggest you get a dingle Tourist Visa, unless you can't rule out to stay much longer than 90 Days.

By the way, a cheap flight to Penang or KL and return the same day will cost you not more than 2 Visa runs with bus, and it is definitely more accommodating.

Shooters: Soi Diamond, first bar on the right coming from 2nd Road, opposite Casino Club! Open daily 7pm till (very) late.

Agreed, if he's sure he only wants a maximum 90 (88 really?) days then 60 + 30 is definitely the least painful option.

Sorry if I added to the confusion. GoldenSmile1.gif

Thank you for your advice regarding the flights. I was considering a trip to either Pnom Phenh or Vietnam anyway. Getting a bit confused by some of these posts. Will have another look when more alert.

Hi, me no understand either. I thought I had the correct answer and probably still do as you described only needing 90 days.

hi again if your 100% staying for only 90 day,s the single entry 60 days with an extension at immigration is the way to go,if you then decided to stay longer you could either do a boarder run which would give you another 15 days or fly out and return which would give you another 30 days visa exception,i found it easier to get a double entry 60 day.s visa , extend it at immigration for 30 then do a boarder run to acttivate the other 60days which can then be extended at immigration for another 30days, just gives you better options if you want to stay longer, don,t have to use the second 60day's but you never know you might end up staying longer.

the visa expires after 3 months. so the second entry also expires after three months. so e.g. if you get the 2-entry-tourist visa 1 month before you go to thailand, you would have to activate your 2nd 60 days after 2 months beeing here (just before the visa expires). you could extend those 60 days by 30 days, which would give you a total of 5 months in thailand.

if you get the visa 2 months before you go to thailand you could stay a maximum of 4 months with that visa (border run after 1 month and then one 60 days extension).

a 60 day tourist visa is valid for 6 mnths get a double or triple entry visa from thai embassy

a tourist visa expires after 3 months. but if you get a double-entry tourist visa and then immediately go to thailand you can activate the second 60 days after 3 months just before the visa expires, which gives you a total of 6 months including 2 extensions.

Hi and Thanks,

They certainly make you cut it close. As visiting either Cambodia or Thailand may also be on my agenda. If I understand correctly I could get one 60 day tourist visa, leave on the 56th or 57th day. Stay in Cambodia or Vietnam for 7 or so days. Then just get a 30 day visa upon reentering Thailand which would last beyond my return flight date.

Thanks again to all who replied.

Yes, that plan will certainly work if you fly back into Thailand.

    • For those that don't know, I did Friday meetings before many years ago,  I feel like we are missing a regular meeting for members,  I am aware guys meet at PA affiliated bars. But I want to start meeting people again, I'm inviting the guys following my YouTube also.

The meetings is a chance to get to meet each other,  I plan to be at every meeting, I also have Dean from Dive bar that has offered to help out with a crawl after.
The meetings will be  Monday  6 pm - 8 pm each week.  (The improvised bar crawl will commence at 8 p.m.  Dean will make his own plans for that.)

Due to low numbers of people in town, I will start the meetings in our bars to help our girls and managers, please check back often incase things are changed.  I will be sharing the love around town later, but Soi 6 is first on my list (including bars that are friendly competition)
If bar owners want us to have a meeting at their bar,  they need to have a minimum of 10 girls.  I'm not dragging people to empty bars for favours.
Please help us invite other members, it takes a while to get momentum.
