Thought this was interesting article.

A 30 year old Australian sustained serious head injuries following an apparent random attack by a gang of youths at an outdoor noodle shop on the Sukhumvit Road in Jomtien. The incident occurred at 5.30am on Sunday Morning and was witnessed by 3 friends of the victim who had spent the evening with him on Walking Street. On their way home, they stopped at the shop for some food. Moments later a group of 20 youths in two cars and one pick-up truck arrived at the shop and attacked the foreign man who managed to run into a toilet inside an apartment complex nearby. The victim claims not to know any of the Thai attackers and was taken to the Bangkok Hospital Pattaya for treatment. Police are unsure if they were given full details of the story but did attempt to catch members of the attacking gang without success.

Those Noodles Bars can be a very dangerous place to hang out especially at 5.30am ...

If it truly was random, the three friends would have been done over too! They targetted him specifically.. Not random at all

The journalist is going off the 'testimony' of the 3 friends that it was not provoked by an earlier incident

It would be interesting to know who has to pay for the hospital treatment in cases such as this.

He's probably has worse playing Aussie rules.

My Pattaya budget is perfectly adequate as long as I don't spend any of it

Yea unless we know the exact whole story it could very well have been something the guy said or did, not that he deserved to be mobbed by 20 dudes (unless of course he committed some heinous crime against an innocent himself).

For the most part I think we can mostly agree that 'random' crimes where foreigners are deliberately targeted to be on the rare side of things (certainly ones where 20 dudes beat up on a foreign guy for absolutely no reason, never heard of that in thailand myself).

Another bunch of Thai cowards, I mean 20 men to beat up one man and he still managed to run away.

The guy was eating his bami and this gang would randomly stop their pickup truck to attack him for no reason at all? I have hard time believing this. I bet they were looking precisely for him because he had done something or insulted somebody.

I tend to agree, I find it hard to believe they would just stop randomly at the noodle bar, bash up one person and not go after his 3 mates. Obviously there's a bit more to this story

It goes to show that you cant fool around their own backgrounds... I always stay out of trouble or arguements if any trouble from a thai, arise somewhere, best to walk away even though they are wrong to you... Poor Aussie had some beating here, he was lucky enough to get into the apartment, only for that , he wont be walking around right now or even dead...

yea you wouldn't get gangs of british attacking people on there own would you?

well yes you would do a quick search on google oxford where the poster lives is probably one of most sedate areas in england

yet it shows about 6 gang attacks in the last 5 months

I think we are making out thai men to be something they are not it's young men everywhere not just pattaya

do a search for your area google search gang attack

I had four and a burnt down muslim centre

pattaya had ten but one duplicate and two from years ago

p.s I also think it's a warning If they wanted to do him real harm they would have

I understand what you're saying but there's a big difference. A couple years back there were a few incidences of gang violence against Indians in Melbourne Australia. India asked Australia what the fuck is going on? Australia made a massive effort to get this crap stopped pronto. The Deputy PM of Australia flew to New Delhi to assure India that this stuff was going to stop. Aussie gangs were tracked down and received stiff sentences. The Australian gov started a big nation-wide pro-India campaign, at the same time making it super clear to all Aussie youth/louts/gangs that racial violence will not be tolorated.

That's the big difference. When there is violence against foreigners in Thailand the Thais do not give a flying fuck, they couldn't care less. It's always the farang's fault, the farang must have down something wrong and got his ass kicked in return. If the farang don't like it they can fuck off back where they came from.

Well! If you want my input I would say and this is pure theory that the Australian man was drunk, why otherwise why would he be at a Thai noodle bar at 5.30 am and he was being belligerent and because he was drunk and possibly on holiday, he upset someone because the noodles aren't the same as they are in his town in Queensland or wherever he comes from, he starts to complain loudly and attracts a crowd, refuses to pay and then when threatened refuses again, then starts getting beaten up but not too severely that he cannot escape. That is a warning to this gentleman that he should behave himself for the rest of his holiday. Wish I knew more about this situation.

Well, you've managed to build a credible fantasy without knowing anything whatsoever. So, well done.

I've actually been in similar situations but come to my senses before it all got out of hand and apologised and whatever else it takes which won't be much. As long as you say you're sorry and make amends the smiles reappear.

your right there is a big difference the guys in melbourne who were attacked were not just given a bit of a kicking they were stabed set on fire and in at least one case murderd all the attacks were also on indians, now correct me if I'm wrong but thais dont just fight with austrailians do they

I just think considering other gang cultures, the amount of guns around, amount of cash flashed about, and the abuse they get, thai guys are very placid .yes they stick together good on them.

if you were to put a city like pattaya in most other countries it would be fuckin bedlam

"good on them" 20 Thais assult one tourist and you say good on them. I don't care if the Aussie was the biggest fucking wanker this side of the black stump, there's no justifying a 20 onto 1 assult. And Thai guys are NOT very placid, mostly they are mean fucks with huge chips on their shoulders that take very little to set them off.
